    • Oculus Rift and why the pricing makes more sense than they are getting credit for

A lot of people are still complaining about the final price of the Oculus Rift. However, I think this is because a lot of people are losing context of this technology and are just mad that their hype train derailed. In short, I think TotalBiscuit does a pretty good job explaining things and justifying the cost:

The new site has a cool look, but certainly has some problems. Pages take a very long time to load (at both home where I have 50mbps and work where we have 300mbps), some actions take several clicks to register, the Contact Us page is blank, there is no place to report bugs, the clock and heart buttons should have rollovers and I'm not sure they're working correctly, I can't remove videos from my queue from the queue page, and that's just from 5 minutes of playing around. Also, my last journal that I posted a half hour before the new site went live has vanished. Guess I posted it to too close to the end or something. Anyway, I hope they have these things fixed relatively soon.

Last journal on the old site, I guess. Got only a little bit of time before the new one is up and running. Wonder what it has in store.

Jebus! I can't believe Ray is leaving Achievement Hunter. When they hired Michael was when I first became interested in AH, but it was when they hired Ray that I knew I'd be a fan for a long time. Ray is a New Yorker, like myself (we're both from Strong Isle as well), and I always loved his sarcastic unrepentant sense of humor. You immediately got the feeling that he both loved and hated the internet, which was a mentality I could get behind. The fact that he's also the best video game player in AH (for most games) was just icing on the cake. Out of all the new shows Rooster Teeth has done over the past few years, X-Ray and Vav is my favorite, so I'm glad to hear he'll still be doing that from time-to-time. Also, if you haven't checked out his YouTube or Twitch you definitely should. I used to think Michael was the only one who could solo a Let's Play, but Ray very quickly proved me wrong. Glad he found something that makes him happy and that he is pursuing it.

Best of luck, Ray! You will be truly missed and never forgotten (mostly because I'll be watching you stream, but you know what the sentiment is).

Unreal Blueprints, you are my new home for the next few months. Python, I'm not subletting you just yet, but I am moving my stuff out.

Was bored over the weekend so I made a Python script in Maya to match one edge with the position and rotation of another edge. For whatever reason, Maya lacks this functionality (you can snap vertices to one another, but not edges) and I couldn't find a similar script online, so I decided to write my own. Took a lot less time than I thought it would and now I'm pretty pleased with it. Glad to find out that something a lot of other tech artists have avoided making isn't actually that hard to make.

It's the end of a great era. From 1999 until 2015, Jon ruled the airwaves, news, and nightly comedy. For the past 16 years, for 4 nights a week you could be guaranteed 30 hilarious minutes with Jon and Co. From under his wing and tutelage came so many great comedic talents. It's understandable that he's going, but it still makes me very sad. This is my generation's "Carson leaving the Tonight Show" moment.

I know this isn't the end of the Daily Show, but it certainly feels like it right now. It's like the Simpsons continuing on without Homer. Not sure how they're going to do it, but I hope that they can pull a rabbit from that hat again. If not, I'm pretty sure Craig Kilborn still isn't doing anything. Best of luck, Jon, you're one of the greats!

I'm shocked and saddened by the passing of Monty Oum.

Clearly, everyone else on this site is too. I remember feeling bad after reading Burnie's initial post, but also anxious because I wanted to know what had happened. Now, I wish I didn't.

Monty was the same age as me. We both work in digital entertainment in the animation department. We both like RT. It was weird reading about someone similar to me not being fired, laid off, quitting, or transferring as so often happens in this industry, but dying. Actually dying and for no real good reason it seems; an allergic reaction gone fatally wrong.

Last week SEGA laid off 300 people and prior to that DreamWorks scuttled PDI, but as tragic as those events in this industry were, those people still exist to create away another day. Monty does not and although his work and vision will forever live on, he was interrupted before he could pen its final chapter. You will be missed, Monty.

It's amazing how much one little asterisk can change. If you've ever worked with pointers before, then you know what I mean
