Midnight Cowboy is a 1969 American drama film based on the 1965 novel of the same name by James Leo Herlihy. It stars John Voight of Deliverance, Heat and Mission: Impossible fame (and Angelina Jolie's father), and Dustin Hoffman from Rainman, Kramer vs. Kramer and Hook. The movie was released in 1969, and won three Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. It is the only X rated film ever to win Best Picture (the film was later rated "R" for a reissue in 1971 with no edits made. The R rating for the film remains to this day).
IMDB summarizes Midnight Cowboy as "Texas greenhorn Joe Buck arrives in New York for the first time. Preening himself as a real 'hustler', he finds that he is the one getting 'hustled' until he teams up with a down-and-out but resilient outcast named Ratso Rizzo. The initial 'country cousin meets city cousin' relationship deepens. In their efforts to bilk a hostile world rebuffing them at every turn, this unlikely pair progress from partners in shady business to comrades. Each has found his first real friend."
