There has been a lot of buzz going around the past 24 hours that Dragon Ball Super will be ending on March 25th with episode 131. I can confirm this is true, but it is a bit more complicated than it sounds. March 25th will end the Tournament of Power arc and the series will end along with it (most likely temporarily). Toei will then shift the Dragon Ball staff from working on the series to working on a Dragon Ball movie that comes out in Japan December of this year.
This movie will revolve around the Saiyans and what it is that gives them their power. The movie will also gauge how invested the fans are and will give Toei and Toriyama an idea of how long they can continue to make absurd amounts of money with the Dragon Ball series. I believe the franchise still has a few good years left in it to say the least. Dragon Ball Super started out rough but has been making A LOT of money and has been very successful. I think it's a safe bet that we will see Dragon Ball Super or a new Dragon Ball series return in 2019 based on this alone but I cannot confirm or guarantee that. I'd definitely bet on it though.
If the movie blows up and is successful then not only will we see the return of Dragon Ball to television but we would probably get a higher quality anime than we have received so far. I'm not saying Super is bad, but it does rely heavily on the nostalgia of fans. I think taking this time to re-assess the product they are putting out is actually a good thing. In the meantime we still get the English dub as well as the manga to keep us entertained until the movie comes out.
I know most of you don't care about this, but if there is one thing I can't stand it's people spreading false information about Dragon Ball. I hope I could clear things up for someone reading this.
Edit: Hiatus is not the correct word to use when talking about Dragon Ball Super. Dragon Ball (in general) will most likely return to TV at some point but there isn't enough information to say what that will look like. It's possible that Toei decides to focus on making Dragon Ball movies for a while. Nobody at this time can say what the future of Dragon Ball looks like. We don't know when a return to TV will happen and we definitely can't confirm that it will be a continuation of Dragon Ball Super. I'm being picky about wording here but the word "Hiatus" implies it will return and the truth is we really don't know if Super is going to return. Dragon Ball will return in some form but not necessarily Super. Does that make sense? As of this time there are no plans for the Super anime past episode 131. Expect more Dragon Ball in the future, but don't expect Dragon Ball Super.
Consider the last episode of DB Super to be on March 25th until something official says otherwise.
