Something that I've noticed since I started posting highlight videos of my streams on Patreon, and obtaining Affiliate status on Twitch. A lot of friends message me when they are unable to continue supporting my content due to XYZ and they tell me they feel absolutely horrible about it.
My fam. It's okay! Really!
I know life happens, and I would honestly be upset if you chose to help me instead of focusing on your needs first. The supplemental income I receive from these platforms does help me a lot, but the support you give me shouldn't be a burden or a hindrance on your own finances.
Take care of you. Please. And don't feel bad that you have to.
If you want to continue to help but can't monetarily, then I will ask that you follow my channels, share/RT my content. That's a HUGE help in this oversaturated corner of the gaming industry. So any time I can get extra eyes on my streams and vids, that's also appreciated.
I will never ever shame you or make you feel bad because you all of a sudden dropped a sub or deleted a pledge on Patreon. We are still friends, and I am forever grateful that you supported me for the time that you did. Truly. <3

Please be sure to read up on all the updates from @SailorTweek here. The latest update is http://roosterteeth.com/post/51649620 Understand that Mary will be posting updates when she herself has info to share.
For those who received their Guardian acceptance. A bit of advice if you are new to the Guardian family or if it's been a while and you could use a refresher, please read below. Also note, that I am writing this purely from my standpoint and experience. This is not reflective of the Head Guardians or RT (in case someone thinks I am speaking for them).
1) As in past years, teams will not be assigned until much later. There are literally hundreds upon hundreds of considerations that Mary and Chris have to take into account, so don't expect team assignments to be sent out any time soon. If you want a rough estimate on how big the team was last year, we ran RTX with over 500 Guardians. Imagine having to pair skillsets with team responsibilities for that amount of people. Give our Head Guardians time to figure things out. For now, congratulate yourself for making it onto the team, the Guardian team.
2) Follow instructions and direction. If you are sent correspondence, READ. EVERYTHING. I cannot stress this enough. One of the best ways to become an effective Guardian is to follow the instructions given to you.
3) Yes, you are a volunteer, but treat this responsibility as you would an actual job. The experience you gain working this show can actually apply to "IRL" roles, so take it seriously. Yes, we get to hang out with friends, and yes, we have a ton of fun, but please understand that this show cannot happen unless we all work together and you are willing to do your part. Being a Guardian is hard work; please don't take this role for granted.
Now this part is where mama bear me comes out.
3a) When you apply to be a Guardian, you are not guaranteed to be placed on your preferred teams. That is the reality of the application. Once team assignments come out, please don't complain about the team you are assigned to. It's completely disrespectful. Reiterating again, there is so much time and consideration put into team assignments, the Head Guardians do their damndest to accommodate everyone's requests, but they can't make everyone happy. Now, if you have a legit concern like, "I can't be a store Guardian because I have a back injury, so I would rather be in a role that's a bit stationary", please let Mary know. But if you receive your assignment and complain that you should have gotten a role over someone else because XYZ, that is not cool, and it's completely unprofessional.
3b) Just like you would with any job, if something comes up and you are unable to attend RTX, message Mary immediately. Don't wait until a few days before the show to say something (unless, of course, something horrible happens at that time).
4) I always encourage new Guardians to talk to veteran Guardians about what they can expect for their first RTX. Don't be afraid to ask questions whether it be directed at Mary, your team leads, or other Guardians. The more prepared you are, the more confident you can go into that weekend.
Special note: Do NOT message RT staff about Guardian related questions regardless if you have an existing relationship with them. Those go to Mary or your team leads. And if they cannot answer it, they will forward the inquiry accordingly. One of the most important things to understand early on is that there is a chain of command. That sounds entirely too military like, but the concept is valid.
4) Veteran Guardians, I always encourage you to be welcoming, helpful, and above all else, humble. You have the experience, and you have the ability to help nurture you team. You've done RTX before, so you know the rules... so you should also know that you are not exempt from them. Be the example, the type of Guardian you wanted to look up to during your first year. Welcome your new teammates and guide them. Remember back to your first year and remember what you wanted to know or learn, how you felt, and use that to motivate you in helping your team build camaraderie.
I think this wall of text is sufficient for now. If the writing bug hits me again, I will post more. For now, welcome to my fellow Guardians. I look forward to working with you.

This is a direct response to the Logan Paul fiasco that started up yesterday. I don't usually react so vehemently, but this hits very close to home for me. And as I am very community-oriented, I have to say this and this message goes out to all of you and anyone else who is heavily involved with a community.
I love communities. I do. But sometimes they scare me so much. Blind loyalty is not a good thing. You can love and respect someone for who they are and what they do, but understand that they are not perfect. And it's perfectly reasonable to hold them accountable for their bullshit.
Hold people, especially those who have a wide range of influence, accountable when they mess up. If you continue to keep them on pedestals and turn a blind eye when they hurt someone, you are doing just as much damage as they did.
This won't even be the last time I say this.
Your role model. Your favorite content creator. Your fav internet celebrity. Guess what?
They. Are. Human.
They will mess up. Everyone does. But don't you dare let them slide when their behavior becomes destructive, toxic, and hurts people. There are people in my life who I love with all my heart. My life would be shambles without them. But if they ever did anything to hurt me, themselves, or another person, I will always calls them out on it. Because if no one does, they don't grow as a person. And I fully expect them to treat me the same.
If you're in a community and you believe that the people you idolize can do no wrong, please rethink how you support them. Because treating them like a god does no one in those communities any favors. In fact, it destroys them. Don't help destroy something you have come to love.

I sit here, thinking of my hometown, of Las Vegas, and I feel a multitude of emotions. The two I feel the most are sadness and anger. I am sad that people are suffering, that there are those who have no choice but to go back to a home that feels emptier. I am also angry that people are hurt and continue to suffer and that lives have been lost.
Even though I feel such rage, I don’t wish to add to the violence or the hate. I wish I could make it so that no one would ever have to shed another tear over a senseless death by ensuring that hate didn’t exist anymore. I wish I could plant a seed of compassion in everyone’s hearts. I wish I could make people experience the best day of a stranger’s life. I wish could make people experience the absolute worst day as well.
If I had a superpower, I would want to be able to cross paths with another and they would know empathy.
I am heartbroken for my city, but I see her regrouping, rebuilding. I see the community, the people, helping each other selflessly and without a second thought. I see a fire that refuses to be put out. Tears may fall, but that flame still burns bright. My home remains strong, so I should do her proud and follow suit.

If you pray, or have a different means of keeping people in your thoughts, can you pray for my family as heaven gains another star?
My aunt has now joined my cousin and two uncles.
Since last Christmas, we have suffered great loss but my family remains strong.
My heart is so heavy but I am glad that my aunt is at peace now. Without going into too much detail, she had been battling cancer for quite a few years. She married into the family, marrying my mother's brother. They had been married for close to 50 years now, so she has been in my life for ALL of my life. She was a master cook, let me tell you, she could make amazing pho. It didn't matter who you were or where you came from, if we invited you into our home especially for the holidays, she welcomed you and she would feed you a crapton of food she made. Whenever I saw her, she called me honey and she would pat my face like I was a youngster. She was one of the most affectionate people in our family.
I saw her last month when I went back home to celebrate my mom's birthday. She wanted me to come back home for the holidays. I am so sad that I won't see her when I got back in a few months. But the main takeaway is that she's at peace, she was surrounded by family, including my mom, dad, and brother. It breaks my heart that I was not able to say goodbye to her. I never felt more alone, but I am hoping that I can make it back home for her memorial service. I write this with such a broken heart, but I am glad that she isn't in any more pain or discomfort.
We lost one of the truly great ones. Keep your loved ones close & those who moved on in your hearts.

We were informed very recently of Aaron Benek's passing, and to say we are all heartbroken is an understatement. His passing was unexpected, and he is survived by his wife and children. His wife is actually expecting in September. They set up a gofundme, so if you can please help by either donating or passing the page along, thank you.
Aaron founded the Response Guardian team back in 2013 with Alex. Back then, it was called Security. It was always a pleasure working with him. Whenever I walked by, he made it a point to ask me if I was doing all right and if I needed anything. Whenever we had down time, we were swap silly RTX stories and laugh till we couldn't breathe. Seriously. The dude had stupid crazy stories. They were all awesome. The last time I saw him was a couple years ago when I was in town for Austin Let's Play Live. We were bitching about how loud 6th street was and that we were getting old.
I honestly don't know how to process my feelings because even though Aaron retired Guardianship a couple years ago, he was still part of the family. Even though we didn't talk a lot, he was still there. And now he's not. And that breaks my heart. There's no easy or right way to mourn. I wish all Guardians could have known him. And I hope that those who do will find solace and peace soon.

Sarahah is an anonymous messaging app that allows people to message you constructive/positive messages under the veil of anonymity. Now, if you've spent more than ten minutes on the internet, you know that this can go sideways immediately. However, I would like to make it easier for people who may want to ask me questions or say things to me but were afraid to do so for whatever reason. If it becomes overwhelming or there isn't any traction, then I will delete the account. But seeing that I've never done this before, I'm curious to see how using this platform works out.
As I've hit 1000 followers on Twitch, I decided to do an IRL stream to celebrate, so I would like to take questions from GeekyFriedRice.Sarahah.com and answer them on the stream. I won't be answering anything inappropriate (if there are any of those types of questions), but I am hoping that people are genuine in their responses and messages.
So let's see how this goes! If you would like to ask me something, feel free to use the link above.

Hmmm. I think it's really important to understand and practice empathy. It's very easy to get caught up in your own world, on your own projects and deadlines, so it's extremely important to understand that the people you work with are going through just as much on their side. Just because you don't see people every day and you're not in constant communication with them, it doesn't mean that they aren't doing their job. I do what I can to ensure that my coworkers know how much I appreciate them.
Both! I primarily use a MacBook Pro, but I do also have a PC set up in my home as well.
