I was listening to one of the old podcasts today, and they talked about how George Lucas was going to re-release the Star Wars movies in 3D. Geoff then suggested that Lucas was only doing this so that he could make more money from the franchise. I feel this is an unfair accusation to make, while I'm sure that money is a component to this decision, to suggest that that is the only reason that he is releasing these movies is extremely one sided. I have always felt that whether or not fans of the original trilogy liked the prequels (and I realize that most did not). What mattered was that they introduced a whole new generation of young people to the amazing Star Wars universe, and many kids who grew up with the prequels prefer them. I grew up during a time of Star Wars blackout. And so I didn't even see the originals till I was probably 13 years old. And the only reason i watched them was because I had seen the episode I and enjoyed it (what can I say, I was young). So I think Lucas' rational behind releasing Star Wars over and over again, is that it introduces a whole new generation of kids to the Star Wars universe, and the many great stories that it holds. And to accomplish that task, the movies need to be updated, because kids are not going to want to watch a boring movie from the 80's no matter how great it might be, and to attract it becomes necessary to make changes that have will upset the original fans, because to be honest Star Wars isn't for the grown up, it is meant for kids to watch and dream of stars, and space ships. So to those who complain about the ruining of a franchise that they love as a kid, understand that, that franchise that universe isn't meant for you its meant for the young kids, and so watch the movies, and try to remember the fond memories that Star Wars, and George Lucas provided you as a kid, and don't try and ruin it for all those youngsters that otherwise may not have had the chance to experience it i the same way that you once did.

    • The only way Socialism could work

I'm high right now so here goes.
Socialism as a general rule doesn't work, because it means that a government is taking away the rights of its people. That is the inevitable outcome of government socialism. People don't want to lose their freedom. Their freedom of choice, their freedom of life, their freedom of opportunity. The only way to avoid this outcome is to have them sell their freedoms of their own free will. This can be done through a corporation. A corporation such as GE, or Walmart. Their ultimate goal is to make up as much money as they can. They are producers of pure profit. They are the product of capitalism and at their core they are its demise.
If the ultimate goal for a corporation is profit, the most sensible action would be to expand into other markets, providing new markets to crash and then take control of. As they expand there begins a South Parkian scenario where people must work for the corporation, in order to get payed by the corporation, in order to buy things from the corporation. As they expand they begin to turn more profit than the government. The government takes on debt, as government takes on loans from the corporation. And as a result of governments lack of a viable way to sustain a profit the corporation would simply reposes the government making it theirs. The people wouldn't even protest. They would rejoice at the prospect of losing the government that had ruthlessly taxed them in order to pay off their debts to the corporation, while their supposed representatives skimmed money off the top. And in time the corporation would be no different from a government. The people had for all intensive purposes sold their freedoms. They wouldn't even need money anymore. They would be the banks. The people would be given their pay buy the corporation, in order to put the money back into the corporation, In exchange for a piece of plastic which means they can use this money in order to buy things that they helped to make from the corporation.
Is this bad or good? Is it worth losing your freedom in order to make a "better tomorrow" even if you wouldn't perceive the loss of freedom? What would the difference be?

I love movies, that's probably why i want to go into film making. But I noticed that a lot of my friends don't understand what makes movies great in my mind at least I just watched Black Hawk Down in my mind one of the top twenty war movies of all time. And what is great about that movie is that it manages to be entertaining and emotionally striking. which is exactly what makes movies great. Their ability to ellicit an emotional response from somebody based on characters that they are watching on a screen is an amazing ability that the movies hold. That's not to say that movies can't be just for entertainment many movies are not emotionally striking, yet still manage to be great. But those movies that do manage a connection are an amazing piece of art. And that's what makes movies great. The ability to tell a story and make a connection with people is fantastic. and that is what i love about movies
