  • Sponsor Chat Fail Compendium

    Zack Zatch

A long time ago, @KevinClayton had the brilliant idea to start hoarding screenshots of people posting botched links in sponsor chat. It was glorious and my favorite thing ever. Despite it only displaying a very narrow scope of the chat, it did an excellent job of jogging the memory of anyone that's ever been in there for a good length of time. He didn't want to keep doing it, so I took up the mantle and posted a second volume of fails, and continued the tradition of passing on the torch to someone else. The third entry was put together by none other than @jpps, who even caught adam failing! After that, @niall wrote a fourth entry! I even failed twice in one screenshot in that one... -_- @AnarchyFire put together a fifth entry, where he titled it "Original 48" and then proceeded to post 47 screenshots.

I've been meaning to put together a single place to find all of the fails. Here they all are!

    Part 1

    Part 2

    Part 3

    Part 4

    Part 5

A sixth entry was never put together, because now sponsor chat is really slick (a term I use loosely) and doesn't use img tags anymore. It's like we couldn't complete the second trilogy.

Yet...here we have our sixth entry at long last. Someone found a way to fail harder than any of the other previous fails. Maybe AnarchyFire can put it in his to make his numbers match up.

@Cinomari might be embarrassed, but I'm not posting this to shame her. It was incredible to witness. People make mistakes, and the beauty of the Fail Compendium is how it cherishes our imperfect humanity. And the profane reactions are pretty great too.

Her fail actually spanned 3 separate screenshots that I had to stitch together in Photoshop, that's how magnificent it was. Hopefully your mouse scroll-wheel is in top shape.

Good luck to anyone trying to top that! I would love a seventh edition of this series, but I would be surprised if someone could fail even harder.

Once again, if you aren’t a part of sponsor chat, this is probably lost on you. I’ll post something for you next time, I promise.

  • Why I became an RTX Guardian!

    thegovna RTX Guardian

Last month was my four year anniversary of rejoining the Rooster Teeth site, and honestly what a crazy four years it's been. In honour of my four years here, and to make up for a lack of content in my journals, I thought I'd write a bit about why I became an RTX Guardian! Buckle in because this may get long.

My journey with RT starts way back in middle school - I was a PlayStation kid growing up so I missed the initial Halo hype, but thanks to the magic of assigned lunchtime seating, I became friends with a kid who was absolutely obsessed with Halo. One weekend whilst hanging out with him, he showed me an episode of RvB, and the rest as they say is history. I joined the old community site, but not being a big forum kid, spent most of my time lurking, and then eventually lost access to that account.

Fast forward to December 2012, and you'd find me moving back home halfway through my sophomore year of college having had to withdraw due to financial difficulties. Moving home when all your high school friends are away at college, and all your college friends are 400 miles away on campus is hard. Really hard. In what honestly was an absolute nightmare time for me, I turned back to one of the few things that made being back home a little brighter - RT and AH content! I joined the site in February 2013 and started getting back into the community - posting journals and even diving into the forums. When RTX 2013 was announced, I still knew almost nobody from the community, but decided to throw caution to the wind and buy a ticket for myself to go, figuring I'd either make friends along the way, or I'd never go back.

Lucky for me, I made myself common in the RTX forum that year, and just as it happened to be, there were others looking to meet people going to RTX that year as well. One of my first close community friends was @StanLewis, the lovable goof you may know from the Gauntlet, or Fan Service, or even On the Spot. Stan created a group chat for people going to RTX both new and old, and through that group I met some really awesome people. The group, which still exists to this day, made it easy to find and connect with people from the community who wanted to make RTX the best time they could.

At RTX that summer, we experienced our first taste of what the event was like - we met our favourite staffers, we watched AH play GTA on the center stage, and we explored downtown Austin. It was an absolute blast and I was hooked right away. I also was "lucky" enough to experience the 9 hour AH Lounge queue on Sunday waiting for signatures with loads of fellow fans. This was the key moment for me.

Sitting on the ground anywhere is not a lot of fun, especially not at the Austin Convention Centre, and ESPECIALLY not for 9 hours. But let me tell you that that time spent there is one of my most favourite memories of the entire weekend. Why? Because of the Guardians tasked to work that line. It's hard to make sitting in one place for hours fun, but somehow they achieved the impossible. The Guardians worked hard to bring water and snacks to folks, to play games and talk with people about their favourite RT shows and moments, to swap stories of how they discovered Rooster Teeth and overall captured what I think one of the best parts of RTX is, which is coming together as a community to make new friends, create great memories, and build experiences that will stay with you forever. What actually was about 9 hours of queuing felt like nothing thanks to the Guardians who went just a little above and beyond to make connections with their fellow community members.

In the three years I have worked as a Guardian since 2013, I have been so grateful to see many of these moments happen first hand, and it makes every second of being a Guardian worth it. To watch the joy (and sometimes tears) on people's faces when they get to tell a staff member how they've impacted their life in some way, or to see long distance internet friends meet and become best friends IRL, or even to hear stories of people finding love, makes even the longest, hottest, craziest days worth it. This year, I can wait to add even more memories and experiences to my repertoire at RTX Austin and RTX London.

Ok, this last weekend was a little weird. I forgot to post an update TWICE! Must be "there is still snow on the ground Spring Fever" or some such.

On Day 78 I did most of the painting trying a newish technique.

Today (Day 79) I did finessing and touch ups to complete the painting.  It's another one I promised at RTX.

    Hey Folks,

Just wanted to say it's an honor to be today's featured user!  I've been a huge fan of RT for years now.  The content they put out every day and the friends I've made in the community have become an important part of my life that I wouldn't trade for anything in the world.

I've also had the privilege to be a RTX Guardian for the past three years, and I will be returning for my fourth year this summer!  Special shout out to all the Guardians on the site who helped me feel truly welcome in this awesome community we're a part of.  I hope to see you all this summer at the funnest event of the year!  Super special shoutout to all my RT D&D bros.  You know who you are...

If I don't know you, let's be friends!  Feel free to shoot me a friend request.  Let's play video games or something.

Oh yeah, I remembered to take process photos of the last painting so here's a gif for that:

  • A Newbie Attends SXSW Gaming

    LadyOddDuck Call Me Duck

I participated in my first SXSW last week when I volunteered to help run the Austin IGDA chapter's booth at the Gaming expo. It was fun being back in the hallowed halls where RTX happens.

Setting up the booth was hard, sweaty work, but it was fun to feel that pre-con excitement. Everyone was booting up their games, talking with each other, and checking out each other's goods. Here's a shot of the Austin IGDA booth:

I cannot tell you how awesome the Austin chapter is. I had been to several of their events before, but never really gotten involved until now. Man, they do incredible things for devs here. They opened their booth to local developers who couldn't afford to get a stand-alone booth space of their own. My fellow volunteers were all excellent people and, even though I didn't get to work this booth specifically, I had a great time in all my interactions with them.

Most of my time was spent working the Kitfox Games booth and showing off their game, The Shrouded Isle. I didn't get a chance to play myself, but everyone seemed to love it. It's a really dark Civilization-esque game where you act as a cult leader to make sure everyone is happy and obedient. I highly suggest checking it out if you're into that sort of thing.

Other highlights were Team Cherry's Hollow Knight, a really cute 2D action platformer. It was incredibly charming and I enjoyed watching people play it across the aisle all weekend. It's definitely one I'm going to pick up soon. Another standout was Skookum Arts' The Pedestrian, a 2D puzzle platformer with really interesting mechanics. I also plan to grab this one when it gets released. Check them out!

Overall, I had a blast. I was really impressed by the level of talent in the room. The expo was mostly indies and they blew me away. The indie game scene is so much fun and I cannot wait for next year's expo.

Did anyone else go to SXSW this year? What were your highlights?

  • 008 Mini Update- Field Notes for RvB 15

AgentWashingtub008 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold Crackpot of Coffee

Over in the forums we've been snapping at any #RvB15 information we can get.  We're less than two weeks away from the 15th anniversary of the SHOW AND THE COMPANY, PEOPLE!  That's no conformation of anything, but just something to note by itself.

As we prepare for the season, I think it's only appropriate I get myself ready for full crackpot mode by making a list of all the things I DO know for sure.  And I may as well share that information.  (And it came up in the forums more naturally...)

So, here's an itemized list of things we know about the upcoming season or can very reliably speculate.  This will be a post I revisit as we learn more prior to the premiere so feel free to comment anything you can think of, or if you just want to stay as on top of it as me, comment for updates/follow the post.

Things We Know about Season 15 (Even Tangentially) As of 5:44 PM PST 3/21/2017

-The story summary states a new plot-driving character who is a reporter investigating the Reds and the Blues and their possible connections to the brewing Human-Alien conflicts in the colony worlds (IE Chorus and the SImulation System)

-The reporter is female.  This is only important because we can slightly speculate to the possible in-house RT actresses who haven't played roles and what her personality might bring to the character.  External actresses are possible but not as fruitful for speculation.  Too many.

-There is an unknown timejump between seasons, but it is likely within months like most previous ones.

-Writing and Directing has been handed over to Joe Nicolosi who wrote, directed, and animated Brick Gultch, the RvBVR shorts, and his own comedy shorts, animations, and skits.

-Miles, Burnie, and Matt are still involved with story to a degree.

-Kerry was present at the RTX AU panel for RvB.

-Machinima is being done in Halo 5

-Machinima has been done in a night-time variant of an industrial map with a city skybox that in Halo lore is a colony world.

-Brandon and Kerry have commented on recording lines, meaning that Palomo and Bitters will return for speaking roles.

    - Geoff has confirmed he has/will be recording lines.  As has Gus.  (I'm just putting this here to be through.)

-Church's plan to delete himself has (for all intents and purposes of the current plan) succeded and some new form of the fragment personas will be returning.

-There's a hidden gem in a few recent posts by RT that I'm not sure if anyone here caught onto.  I don't want to ruin the surprise, BUT several official RT posts in the pre season 15 hype building in the forums and on other social platforms have mentioned Sister.  And not just a mention, but with enough importance to consider her extened return in 15 as being almost garunteed.  It was tucked nicely into the post about Wash AND Sister lines, true, but she keeps coming up publicly.

-It has been discussed that retro/classic merch could return to the store sometime soon.  This includes the Red vs Blue Jersey shirts which appeared very early on.  Gavin is lobbying for Grif's to be the original intended 69 rather than 22.

  • On The Spot Submission Thread #89

    Jon The Risemonger

I'm told if we get to a certain number of new First members by the end of this week then I will be replaced with a puppet for this week's episode. Make a young muppet-loving boy's dream come true and make it happen people.

    • Finish the sentence: How to...?
    • Feel free to submit more than one idea.

    • Come up with a 2 person scenario where the characters interact with each other a lot.
    • Be as descriptive as you want, this is a scene the guests have to play out.
    • Scenes that work best for this game have a high potential for rapid dialogue and confrontation.
You give me a story and I make them act it out. This week I'm looking for prompts involving:
      • Strange reasons to have an argument with your significant other.
      • Conversations from history you'd love to have been there for.
      • Or you can always fill in your own story idea if you think you got a good one.

    • Give me a person, a place and a genre.
    • Pro tip: don't use Rooster Teeth staff as your person (including me). Let's leave RT people in the Lazer Team extended universe where they belong.
    • Pro tip #2: don't suggest Trump. I'll ignore it.

    xoxo The Risemonger

  • GotD Haunted Houses and Things

I went to slasher fest this weekend. The scariest off season horror house...sure... I feel bad but I lost my scare because I became hideously underwhelmed by the makeup. It was well done but it was only face paint and masks. After the first 1/4 there was a lack of blood. Needless to say I was a tad sad. Not to say I'm a horror master but from the sounds of it if I made my own haunted house I would give some poor human a heart attack. I guess I have to bend and understand the importance of jump scares vs. scary bloody scares.

However I did another thing! Tried backing off a bit. I'm currently happy...Enough with it. Ask me again in a week and I may hate it. But looksie at the thing!

It's not perfect but it's progress?

Please understand the lack of blood, I only have so many tank tops and such so I can't go hog wild.
