This week, Gus, Blaine, and Brandon are out clashing against mythical beasts, roughly between 6 and 7am. These mighty warriors fight diligently to keep the realm safe, just not at day or night. Also not at dusk. If you need saving at dusk, you're totally boned.

Multiple cultures have a flood story somewhere in their mythology:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_flood_myths

And yes, dragons are kind of ultimately far eastern:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon

But then, there's my personal theory that every possibilty someone has come up with or could have done, exists in some universe in the infinate multiverse (so somewhere, maybe not here, but somewhere, dragons exist)

In all seriousness: if dragons existed and I found one, I would tame it and make it my friend/pet....its always been my dream to fly on a mythical beast that is the dragon.

Also, great vid guys that was awesome

In most stories or myths I've read, orcs were always elves but how they became orcs differs.

As for dragons, I just figured someone found a dinosaur skull and couldn't explain it.

    "Holy shit! What is that!?"

"Oh? Uhh, I killed that. Yup."

    First dragon slayer is born.

The Silmarillion is more of a Bible than encyclopedia, a compendium of stories ranging from the beginnings of the world at the hand of Eru Illuvitar to the third age War of the Ring. And yes, Orcs in Tolkien's mythology were elves taken captive by Melkor (the first Dark Lord to whom Sauron was but a lieutenant), tortured and corrupted into evil creatures who bred in the dark places and eventually spread to all corners of the world. (Goblins are a sub-species and Uruk's are the more man-like warrior species, Uruk-Hai are specific to the kind bred by Saruman in the pits of Isengard)

For more detail on this and many other topics, consult your nearest copy of the Silmarillion or Return of the King's Appendices

And Flash Gordon. Lucas was a huge Flash Gordon fan growing up.

That's also where he got the opening crawl idea from.

The only thing I heard during their character introductions was:

    "I'm a handsome knight."

    "I'm a sexy archer."

    "I'm Gus."

Blaine's right. Dragons existed in nearly every culture's mythology way before they ever communicated with each other. And many things are believed to have inspired them: Dinosaur bones, Nile Crocodiles crossing the Mediterranean into Europe, the Goanna in Australia, whales (specifically their bones), and even the universal fears in the human brain combined together in folklore.

And Gus is correct that dragons look different in different cultures, which honestly just proves Blaine's point that the legends developed independently.

ACTUALY all cultures do have some interpretation of a dragon. Even native Americans had a dragon in their mythology called the Piasa and it had a human face deer antlers and feathers.

Dragons exist in every culture because dinosaur bones can be found in many locations throughout the world. Imagine finding a dinosaur's skull or their giant bones and having to imagine what kind of creature left those bones.

The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell

"Since publication of The Hero with a Thousand Faces, Campbell's theory has been consciously applied by a wide variety of modern writers and artists. The best known is perhaps George Lucas, who has acknowledged Campbell's influence on the Star Wars films."

If I remember the silly documentary I watched correctly dragons are in every culture because they embody what primates fear. The snake like body and fangs, the claws of big cats and the whole fire breath thing; they are all the traits that we have more or less evolved to be afraid of. Combine all of the nastiest parts of nature that can kill us and you get dragons.
