I was not even a fan of the Rocket League videos, but if all the git gud series is gonna be like this, you should definitely do Rocket League for the next game. This was fast and intense as if I was watching a sport game on TV, cheering for my favourite team.

With a few changes, Rocket League would be perfect for Git Gud:

    1. Play Ranked 3v3 or 2v2 (Spice it up with 1v1 vs each other)

    2. Split into two teams of three or three teams of two (Team cars and colors?)

    3. Set a goal like, "Reach gold rank"

    4. Look up a video for basic control/camera settings

    5. Use the built-in training packs! The user-created ones are really helpful

    5. Face off against each other in the grand finale!

Their communication has really been improved over the Git Gud series. Every episode that comes out shows growth in their teamwork. I love watching them improve, especially because of their casual approach to it. Yes, of course they like winning and hate losing, but they've played games enough to know it's just a game. They don't rage out of a game because they lost; they laugh about it because they know it doesn't matter. I have very much enjoyed Git Gud and look forward to enjoying more, no matter what game they play. Keep up the good work, Achievement Hunters!

I've played loads of Rocket League and for ages I thought the stuff my friends were doing (flying, wall shots, etc) was nuts and I'd never be able to do it, but it is totally possible with enough practise.  You guys already have decent positioning and your shots are pretty good.

In response to @n00noom4st3r below (I also saw your comment on YouTube), definitely remove camera shake, and also edit your camera position and FOV while you're at it.  Camera positioning is key to complimenting your play style.  I'd recommend trying out different cars, if you don't have any of the fancy ones, try the Dominus, which I'd say would compliment you play styles right now.  When/if you start doing aerials, then maybe try out the Octane.  I use a combination of the Dominus GT, the new Skyline, Octane and Octane ZSR, and the new Jager.

If you were going to do this as the next git gud (and I'd love it if you did, the passion and hype when you win is just what I'm after), then maybe do some training montages because the standard training stuff they have in game is pretty useful.

They have never used aspects of synergy or thought about synergizing tactics like normal noncasual players trying to use everything to their advantage in any competitive game, idk why people are assuming/suggesting they are suddenly going to start using statistics and mechanics like that now lol. This is just my opinion of course, but 6 years of watching them has made their playstyles pretty recognizable and predictable as far as there personalities expressed through gameplay go.

Not sure why this was "noob'd" multiple times(lols). I was very sincere and didnt say anything that implys ignorance. These rocket league fanatics and even normal casuals are really defensive. They want our opinions guys. Not for us to argue. They are still going to play more regardless of which tryout wins in the end, so there is no need for anything beyond constructive criticism. Support each other; We are suppose to be a Community/Family. Enjoy the videos and don't forget to be grateful they have dealt with our shit for so many years and still care enough to ask our opinions.                  EDIT: Thanks to the two that removed theirs. So this is a comment I left on the youtube version on this video, but Tacolicious suggested I post it here as well in hopes of Achievement Hunter seeing it :D

    Dear Achievement Hunters,

I've played a fair bit of rocket league and I'm so excited for a git gud series in rocket league. I'd love to give you a couple of tips to help you out in gittin' gud :)

    - Go into your settings and turn off camera shake The game becomes so much smoother and control of the ball becomes almost instantly easier because of the fluidity in your camera. (Suggested by UnicornSpaceWhale) It's also important to add that you can customise your camera settings and a larger Field of View is often desirable to see more of the pitch at once. Play around with your camera angles and heights until you find something that's comfortable. A good place to start could be to search up what settings a pro player uses :)

    - Boost is your best friend in rocket league If you have no boost, you can't move fast enough and will easily get outplayed by your opponents. Having boost is a massive advantage to have so make sure you're not wasting it too much and go and get more ASAP. To make sure you're not wasting it, if you are going at maximum speed (ie there are streaks at the side of your screen meaning you're going as fast as possible), then don't keep using your boost. You will not go any faster and the boost will be wasted. Keep your eye on the ball, especially when you're going to get a boost cannister and you turn your camera lock off. It's really easy to miss an easy save because you were going to get some boost instead so watch out for that.

    - If you don't have boost, FRONT FLIP FOR STYYLLEEE To go faster when you are out of boost, double tap A while moving forward to front flip. This will gain you momentum fairly quickly and after 2 or 3 flips you'll be almost as quick as you would if you had boost. (Suggested by Edwin Stevenson): Flip diagonally forwards to gain slightly more speed and if you do have a little boost, make sure to use it just before you flip to gain even more momentum than just flipping.

    - I'M STILL IN THE AIR because I'm aerialling So this is a little more advanced and maybe something you should try out after you get into the series a bit. You may have noticed in a couple of your games that other players seemed to be 'flying' to reach the ball mid-air. This is a technique called aerialling and it is extremely effective in beating your opponents to the ball and scoring because of it. A very quick summary of it: Jump into the air using A, point your car upwards by pushing left stick downwards, and hold B to boost yourself upwards. Learning how to control this is hard and takes a lot of practice, but if you can, aerials will win you so many matches, especially at a lower level.

    - Rebind your controls! The default controls kinda suck and it can help to rebind them. By default, leaderboard is on RB and powerslide & air roll is on X. However, it can be very advantageous to rebind some of these. For example, it is quite common for players to rebind their air roll to RB and rebind the leaderboard to something else. (I have mine bound to LB and mic unbound). The reason for this is that when you are aerialling, you can roll at the same time as boosting, giving you even more flexible control. Of course, this is quite advanced so I wouldn't worry about it for a few episodes, but if you want to get serious about aerialling, then rebinding those controls is essential!

    - Pinching balls (hehe) Sometimes, a good way to move the ball quickly out of your half and into the opponent's half is to 'pinch' it off of a wall. This basically means hitting while the ball against the wall whilst it is is already touching the wall, causing it to 'pinch' sideways at an extreme speed. This can be a little unpredictable but often ends up well. You may want to just quickly youtube a clip of it to get an idea of what I mean as it's hard to explain without a demonstration.

    - Goal keep sideways If you ever find your self in goal and a ball is hurtling towards your car, turn yourself sideways on the goal line. This may seem counter-intuitive, but it allows you to more freely move to the position of the ball and block it. When coupled with the double jump (ie double tapping A), you can cover any point in the goal to quickly block any shot. You may need to practise a little to get your reactions up to speed, but this should be fairly easy.

    - Play your opponent(s) Sometimes, it's better to blow up an enemy than it is to hit the ball. If you see your teammate going for a shot and an opponent is sitting in goal, waiting to save it, go and blow them up :) It sounds mean, but unfortunately, it's the way the game is designed and you should take advantage of it to try and gain an edge over your opponents. Even if you don't have enough momentum to blow them up, just bumping them is extremely disorienting and this will probably anger them, leading them to irrational decisions and may even lead to a victory ;)

    - sdrawkcab yalp ot nraeL (Learn to play backwards) Sometimes, you simply don't have the time to turn around and chase the ball, so playing backwards will save you time and may even get you a goal or an important save. Holding left trigger to reverse and backflipping like described in tip 3 is very quick to do and if you have ball cam on (pressing Y), you can easily keep track of the ball too. Just remember that boost will not work while you're backwards and will make you go forwards :D

    - Have someone on the halfway line When you are playing 3v3's make sure that if 2 people go to shoot, the other one stays a little further back (usually around the halfway line) in case it all goes tits-up. If all 3 of you go up to shoot and if doesn't go in (which does happen a fair amount), the enemy can easily get a clear on target and score before you can even get back to your goal. So make sure that you are aware of your positioning in the sense that if you see all your teammates go for a shot, you restrain yourself and hang back in case they miss. (Suggested by multidolfan69) It's also important not to chase the ball and to always watch where you are positioned on the pitch, especially if a teammate is already chasin the ball to set it up or clear it etc.

    - Communication is the key You guys are already pretty amazing with how you communicate with each other, but I wanna reinforce how important it is. If you can call out that you're going for a shot or that you're setting it up for a teammeate, they can plan acordingly and your team will be so much better. Call out what you're doing all the time. Even if it's not really that important, knowing where your teammates are and what they're doing can be the difference between scoring and getting scored on, so keep that in mind.

    - Competitive isn't as bad as you think! (Suggested by Teleport Atlas) It can help to play some competitve to try and figure out what skill level you're currently at and actually play people of similar skill levels. It's, arguably, the best way of actually gitting gud and it will help the series along nicely. And it's not the same as in other games where you should already by really gud before you try ranked play (like rainbow six). You can start off right at the bottom and play with friends (or co-workers ;) ) and git gud quite quickly.

    - Your car does actually matter (Suggested by Eyan Pell) This is a slightly touchy area in rocket league as there are many disagreements on which cars actually do provide an advantage (if any at all). It is generally accepted, though, that the Octane, Dominus and Batmobile have the best stats and hitboxes. However, there are many different cars all with their own feel so just play with what you feel most comfortable with. Personally, I paly with the Takumi or the Aftershock, but again, it's down to personal preference :D

    - Analyse your opponents' playstyle (Suggested by Master Crander) It's important to try and classify your opponents' strengths and weaknesses to press an advanteage against them and win more games. I've copied exactly what MasterCrander said because I think it sets out the basic types of people you'll go up against:

"Grass: Think about a grasshopper. Very hoppy, a lot of mid-height shots and a heavy use of front flipping.
Weaknesses: Low likelihood of aerials, poor ground work, sloppy movement
    Strengths: Fast, unpredictable, reckless

Ground: This is usually the most technical and intensive of the 4. The ball stays very low with these players; they often settle the ball instead of keeping it bouncing or flying. Speed control is crucial to ground players.
Weaknesses: poor air control, can get stolen from, limited height range.
Strengths: psychological game, micro-plays, dribbling, play calling, scoring under pressure, dependable defense

Air: pretty self explanatory. These players live in the air. Most plays are an air dribble or big hit around the top of the arena.
Weaknesses: no boost = no help, air players are useless without boost, they can get outplayed on the ground, plays are large and flashy
Strengths: able to save dangerous balls, fas"

Big props to MasterCrander for suggesting this :D

I think that's about everything that could help you at such an early stage and I look forward to the series and I hope others will agree with me when I say I'm really excited to see it in action.

(As a side note to other commenters, please feel free to disagree/add any other points, I think the community of rocket league is so great and Achievement Hunter can really use all the help they can get) ;)

EDIT: I wasn't going to include this, but part of this list is inspired by a video by SubParButInHD and you should definitely go and check them out if you want tips on getting better at any skill level. After al the huge support and kind feedback on my post, I feel like you guys should look up their youtube channel to check their rocket league content as well as their twitch streams

Don't know if anybody else has mentioned this:

You could save the replay of the game and overlay the original audio over that. That way you can have unique camera angles rather than only having a player's pov angle.

The downside to this is that it doesn't do goal replays when watching a replay and it cuts straight back to the next kickoff. It would take a bunch of editing and resyncing to make it sit right with the original commentary. It would provide the opportunity to show different angles, but it's probably not worth the effort.

    • GodsReckoning FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Unfortunately Tasrayryn is right about the editing issues. It might be good for specific really impressive plays though which wouldnt be to much work. They could make a few their own intense moment replays and nifty trailers though for each player and game type if they want.

    • Tasrayryn FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Yeah, if at least one player saves the replay for each match then afterwards they could record a cool replay for specific moments in a game and give those to the editor to splice in with some additional commentary. It would be really easy for the editor but it would take some extra effort on the part of the players so they'd have to be fairly invested in the excitement of a given play to do it. Not out of the question though.

There’s a great quick guide on YouTube comments if this wins. I’ve been playing since launch and I’d add this. Jeremy and Michael would understand this concept best probably.

Learn to recognize others’ as well as your own style:

I’ve been able to discern roughly 4 different styles of gameplay.

Grass: Think about a grasshopper.

Strengths: able to save dangerous balls, fast, perfect for striking

Bug: These players play on the wall. They seek to get it to the edges and upwards. They drive around the cage and are known to jump outwards for centering.

    Weaknesses: poor striking, predictable, mid-speed

Strengths: great passers, great setups, hard to steal from, decent defense

There's a world of type advantage and other details you can read into the play. But that's the basics. It's a lot like pokemon and people fall into the archetypes more often than not.

When you get a feel for where you fit, choose two and train hard in that style combo. Some combos are better than others but being able to match your intuition is best. If ground style just makes more sense than air, that's OK.

My play style fits all but the Ground type, though I'm not especially skilled in any of them. I guess that's why I always feel like I'm an average player rather than a good player. Guess I'm trying to be a Jack-of-all-trades when most of the time I do better as a Jeremy-of-goal-keeping.

    • MasterCrander FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

@Tasrayryn There's a time and place for every style and the more you play the more versatile you become. I'm very solidly a Ground/ Bug Type; but I'll throw in a simple aerial or saucy bounce when I need to. In my experience, high level players are more heavily skewed towards ground types and air types because those allow for the nastiest plays. They are also like fire and ice because they are both a counter for the other, it's just about who can outplay the other person.

If you're a good defender without ground style, look into finding some carry-outs that you like that keep the ball up in the top third of the cage. There's several decent routes for a bug defender to carry almost straight up and around to their goal.

The awesome thing about RL is that you can win with any style. You just have to be good enough and clever enough.

You should really be considering and using all of these things with finesse IMO.

    • MasterCrander FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

@GodsReckoning What do you mean? Are you saying that all of these things should be relegated to the simple phrase "finesse"? I think you made this argument on someone else's comment too.

AAA titles are almost never only fun until you learn the controls. RL has a deep but simple meta. There are things in the game I guarantee that you don't know you don't know. I've played since launch and there are still things I'm learning I don't know. And I obviously have a decent insight on the game already. This would suggest an ever-growing target of Gud but others have wisely suggested setting a competitive goal such as Platinum.

If what you're suggesting is that the only change between their skill level now and "Gud" is more goals or cleaner goals then you have a very narrow understanding of the game or perhaps gaming as a whole.

If you're suggesting, again, that it would get boring and repetitive, consider that their opponents' skills are not a stagnant variable. The competition will increase and the strategy gets more complex. Exponentially almost.

On top of all that, you have to consider the visibility of the gud and the visibility of the meta for the sake of video quality. In RL, you can see very clearly what you can't do because someone else is doing it. The rounds and plays are short and easy to track. Even the longest regimented plays aren't more than 5 or 6 motions. PUBG, as a comparison, has a deep meta and placement strategy but it takes 30-45 minutes to track the whole thing. That is compensated for by their commentary and the steady stream of enemies along the way.

I'm not going to say that RL is the best option yet. But it's definitely a damn good one. The things that make it an imperfect choice are not as dopey as "now that they can drive forward and touch the ball, I'm no longer interested in these movements I don't understand." There's almost a unanimous disagreement from players all across the spectrum of time played in this game.

Please clarify your argument or clean it up.

    • GodsReckoning FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

@MasterCrander You gave me a lot of options, but to clear things up just understand I meant the literal term of finesse. And I ditto'd your original comment. You said what someone with the quality of developed finesse would would be thinking about all the time perfectly in the first sentence of you first replying comment. Having that mindset with all of the options in the OP comment. It's not just AAA titles that have complex systems of gameplay which use synergy and other types of mechanics in the original meta or the current meta of the game.  That's what makes games fun and competitive in modern video game culture worldwide. Those are the only games I play for extended periods and RL is one of them. I already posted that i would watch more.  It also wasn't an argument(that'sjust what your comment suggested)it was an addition to the original comment that i specifically said was my opinion to avoid having to make this comment.(which is using critical thinking to analyze and make opinions about future actions. That can also be explained as finesse.)  You assume a lot about how I feel about everything and what qualifications your own opinions entitle you to from me. You should compartmentalize all of the qualities of the games(and all of the games like them, that you are admiring.) for immediate practical application in any situation.  That's what "the simple phrase" that is "Finesse." stands for in the simplist understandable way that i can "clarify" it with. That phrase being understood will answer your questions. Stop reading all of my comments in general if you are going to waste this much of your time reading and replying just to understand them. I wouldn't reccomend it to anyone, just stop caring after you see my name. This is all just suggestions and recommendations which are all opinions of mine. So you don't have to waste time replying unless you really just want to discuss my mental processes or make it about my character personally as a human being. My opinion might be different a day from now.

@GodsReckoning I think you just made less sense than before. I can't make heads or tails of your position; which by the way is another valid use of the word argument - a stance taken on a particular subject. You seemed to be trying to make a point and I still can't tell what it is. In case it mirrored some other comments I had seen of yours, I provided several counter-argument (again, not intended with the connotation of volatility but rather that there is an opinion involved).

Perhaps it your over-use of the word finesse? I'm taking it to mean, "doing something with care, close intention or a certain level of meticulous refinement." Obviously, mastering the details I put in the first comment and the paraphrased echo from n00noom4st3r would require a heightened precision. But that's inherent to the title of the series. Are you not positing that this game is not a good fit for the series because the only way to move deeper into the game is refining their skills in a way that won't be outwardly obvious? That is the main point I disagree with - citing in relation my time played in the game as well as the near decade spent watching AH/ RT content.

I'm not going to lie, I've been systematically conditioned to respond to online discourse with targeted dissent. However, I don't want to be automatically discounting something you say or disagreeing if you're making a valid point. First, though, I need to understand what you're saying. That's why it's all the more confusing that you are responding with a request for me to ignore you. I'd say my time is as valuable as I make it. It's only wasted if it doesn't serve a purpose; but it does - insight & a safe dose of impermanent conflict.

You are shouting into a crowd of people telling them to ignore you. I find that morbidly fascinating in the same way a 5 legged raccoon is. It really shouldn't exist; but now that it does, let's study it and perhaps make fun of it while it's back is turned.

Overuse? That was my only subject and it was the one thing you asked me to clarify unless you want to act like you don't know what it or the other words in my single sentenced comment mean. I'm only going to answer the one question because you are obviously flamebaiting like I was warned about your last comment. Yes, I want to see them play more and see them learn all aspects of every git gud game. I'm aware they are already playing more RL regardless and I never stopped supporting it. I know that you and N00noom4st3r are aware of each other , it's referenced in his more detailed post that you are talking about(but still people seem to not like you there either.)( I Definitely agree with the 12 other points he made before the parts similiar to yours.)) I made it very clear how little i care about your thoughts on my opinions and give you full control of this horribly one sided mock debate you have going, so you have the full ability  to leave or have the last word, whatever makes you feel better.

Why are you insulting me now? Can you cite where "people" are combining to dislike me in relation to my strategic additions? It must have slipped my notice entirely. I'd love to see their united feedback though. I'm always open to well thought out criticism and input.

If you so nonchalantly don't care, why insert your opinion in the first place? If you didn't care at all, you would not have commented at all.

And no, I don't understand your original still. I genuinely attempt to understand you and you're trying to hurt my feelings? Why? Are you getting upset because you haven't been able to communicate effectively enough? I understand each word individually but not in the unique order you decided to use them.

"Overuse" refers to using the word to mean too many things. I'm not talking about variance in points made, I'm talking about lack of precision of language.

I feel that you want so bad to make me feel small right now. It's not working but condescension only works if you can actually position yourself above the other person. I want to know what you're talking about before I actually respond but all you can do is say you don't care and try to act...Idk...tough?

Not sure how this "views," voting thing is going to work.  You have to watch them all to know which one you prefer.   Unless they want us to be an uninformed voter, and look what that got us in 2016.

They want us to watch the video we want more than once and only watch the rest once. It's a great way to encourage a higher view count on these videos by framing it as interaction.

I played Rocket League for maybe a month (it's incredibly fun and I wish I had the time to play all day) and the amount of people leaving before they lose a match is absolutely mad. Either they're 12 years old or just sore losers not wanting bad stats or something; it's incredibly frustrating that people can't just enjoy a game as a game and accept a loss no matter how big or small.

Generally in ranked people still leave early at times, but there is a matchmaking ban for being the first to leave so it doesn't happen constantly. You can forfeit matches if the whole team votes yes, and people do tend to smash the forfeit button if anything goes wrong.

This is great! lots of room to improve but a good basic understanding of the game! it would be pretty fun to see AH win more often but still improve more and more. Maybe you could set up a task to complete to get gud, for example an aerial goal. This one has my vote!

As one who has 1000+ hours in this game, I know they definitely have room for improvement lol, however it is fun seeing them "Git Gud". So to see them start at this level and maybe make it to where all or even one of them can make an aerial goal  would be an interesting series in my opinion.

I would be all for this as a git gud! Also don't be ashamed bout that last loss. Jakeballs was a master rank.

Also two protips, not every ball touch has to be a strike, like you don't have to double tap A to land a good goal. Varying the timing of those moves is a major key to success. Secondly don't little league around the ball when its in a corner because you'll lose camera sight on the other team and it's hard to clear out of there in a hurry.

What if you guys had two teams each comprised of 3 achievement hunters, and played until you thought both teams were considerably gud, and then!

Have the final challenge be a 3s battle against each other....
