I am in a agreement that me and michael would agree that this game has so much shit thats so fucking stupid and people who want him to read the bs are so idk the word but some of you need to lay off with them reading stupid shit in the playthroughs the only thing they should read is story tied in stuff that explains the story of the game not stupid bible poems or cooking books.

I wonder how many of these they filmed bc Michael I assume is on leave because of Iris and won't be around for a bit to film more. Not that I care I'm glad he and Lindsay's baby is healthy and they're so, so happy. I just love watching Michael and Gav play scary games lmao

Props to Gavin for spotting that hatch near the end. I spent 10 minutes walking around that area cause I couldn't figure out where I needed to go. Eh maybe I'm just stupid. But considering how oblivious these 2 have been about their surroundings for the entire game I thought it would take them longer to see the hatch.

I feel like this game would do better if it wasn't an Outlast game. It has new mechanics and an interesting story in itself, but the fact that it's suppose to be a sequel to Outlast hurts it. The first game left a big impression on everyone that played it, a sense of tension that really made you want to escape. While it does give a good experience, it's not the experience that people were looking for. A lot of people wanted a sequel to the first game because they preferred the mechanics and the way the story was presented, they wanted another Outlast 1 and another Whistleblower. So yes I think it's a good game, but I don't think it's a good Outlast game.

I agree, but I honestly think the story in this one isn't that great. It might just be because I watch and read a lot of horror, but the 'twists' seemed projected from a mile away (though to be fair, Michael and Gavin don't seem to have picked up on them, so who knows) and the lore that WAS interesting (ie: any bits that tied into Outlast 1) were covered up under a mile of silly religious stuff. It might just be that the underlying plot of Outlast 1 was more interesting to me, I don't know, but I was incredibly disappointed by the end of this game. I 100% agree about the mechanics thing, though.

yeah honestly! Though, I can't really get into the story for pretty much the same reasons Michael can't get into it. That, and the map is essentially the same thing over and over. Outlast 1 is like that too since you're in one building, but it didn't really feel like it was repeating too much (at least to me). This is just, outside, school, outside, school, etc etc.
I'm one of those on team "another whistleblower", mainly because there's just so much story you can dig into that wasn't fully touched upon in the first game. I think that's what made the first one so interesting; the ending was a drastic turn that explained why things were happening the way they were. Now I haven't heard anything about this game's ending, but how can it explain all this "Father Knoth" crap? Everything about the notes, disease, and crucifying confuses me. Adding in the school parts, and I'm just straight up lost on what is supposed to be happening. If it can add a twist like the ending of the first game, then I'd be satisfied. Or something that actually explains what the school has to do with all these almost corpses walking around.
I'm honestly only comparing it to the first game because it's supposed to be a sequel. I thought they had a pretty good storyline going with the first game, and I'm really confused as to why they decided to go with a whole new story.

also hi duo hows it going

I'm glad that they mentioned that it was missing something that the first one had because I've been thinking the same thing the whole time. The first game was much scarier and everything about it was kind of creepy, not just the fact that you were trapped and you were trying to escape all these people that were trying to murder you but the actual setting itself was creepy. This one is just gore over gore and you don't feel as trapped as the first one.

I'll still make a comment although others have already said the same thing. I think this game would have been much better if the school was the entire setting. The only time I feel truly tense is in the school scenes because of that weird fucking monster thing. During the normal part of the game, it just doesn't keep me tense and rarely does it have scares. The only legitimate jump I've had outside of the school was in the climbing section, in the last part (I believe), where the guy punches them off the cliff as soon as they climb up.

Even with that being said, I'm still going to continue watching the series, because Michael and Gavin never fail to make something entertaining. Plus I've seen it this far, may as well see how it ends.

I'd just like to point out that Outlast 2 was reviewed really, really well by critics. I think I found one that was negative out of about 15. People's biggest complaints seem to be that it's needlessly gory (unlike Whistleblower obviously, which only filled an entire gymnasium with impaled bodies who had their dicks chopped off, a guy with a buzzsaw who eats a guard right in front of you, etc.), and it "doesn't feel the same". Well why do you want it to be exactly the same? I'm wondering how many of the people complaining have actually played the game, it's a completely different experience than watching 2 guys make jokes the whole time. Outlast 1 was extremely tension driven, lots of hiding and waiting. This one isn't trying to make you tense, it's trying to make you shit your pants and wonder why you're doing this to yourself. Yes, there's a lot more running, and a bit more gore. But don't judge something you've only seem someone play half of, and for those of you who have played it, go back through 1 again and tell me this one's mechanics aren't smoother and better in every conceivable way. If they had started talking about how much they loved it, I bet all of the same commenters would rush to agree with them, just because of the bandwagon effect.

Everyone who hates it compares it to the first one. And everyone who loved it, as far as I can tell, went into it looking for a completely fresh experience. It's not trying to be the same game, and I actually appreciate that. Don't let nostalgia take over, is I guess my main point.

Last thing, "why doesn't he just leave"? Leave where? Where the hell is he supposed to go, even if he completely gives up on his kidnapped fucking wife. I get that it's fun to hate things but at least put a little effort in.

Well for me I haven't played anything outlast and so far I am enjoying this outlast 2 play through less than outlast 1. I think it's because in outlast 2 you feel like you should be able to do something the game isn't letting you do which makes the tension go down. Outlast 1 did a great job making it seem like all of your decisions are the best decisions you have at any given moment. Outlast 2 just seems like things are being half assed and you are just constantly running away from people. When you are constantly running away from someone, each moment is less and less impactful because it gets repetitive and predictable. I think their decision to go with religious cultist was a good idea but they didn't really pull it off well. I appreciate the attempt to give it a different feel from outlast 1 but the story is lacking because it doesn't give you a definitive goal for the game, each scene has a small goal and when you achieve that goal you go right back to step 1 with another problem not really seeming to go anywhere. I can say however the parts in the school in outlast 2 are so far being done really well for similar reasons why I feel outlast 1 was good. This is my opinion from only having seen gavin and michaels play through so take everything I am saying with a grain of salt. But I do have you agree with you on the bandwagon effect, I've seen peoples opinions grow more and more drastic because other people agree with them. When other people agree with you it's a good feeling of inclusiveness and support that will make you feel much stronger about your opinion because now you have someone to back you up, then things can spiral out of control. I try really hard not to obtain this bias in any of my opinions and I usually try to support my opinions with reasons why I feel that way. If I can't back up my opinions with reasons I usually make a double take and rethink that opinion and try to come up with reasons why or why not your opinion is good or not.

I agree with so many people in the comments. It's fun to watch them play it, but as a game it isn't nearly what the first one was. The first game was scary, but this game is just needlessly graphic for the sake of being graphic. Plus, the story in this game is all over the place. There is an actual plot, buried somewhere in this mess, but they opted to try for total crypticism. Unfortunately, it isn't cryptic, it's just nonsensical.

The story makes perfect sense if you actually play attention, read through most of the stuff, and wait until the end.

You shouldn't have to wait until the end of the game to enjoy its story, and sure, reading through every piece of paper  would help those of us who do not know it, but you shouldn't have to rely on a written narrative to build the story either. That kind of storytelling may work for some people, but I feel that a story that is completely lost if you take out the collectable system is lacking immersion.

    • musicisum405 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold Huntress

I've seen the whole game, and waiting until the end does nothing to reveal the plot. It literally just ends, at a point somewhere in the middle of what should have been the story. The only real plot reveal, minor though it may be, is a note that you find only if you are specifically looking for it. And even then, there are so many unanswered questions, as well as incredibly misleading pseudo-answers, that the plot becomes garbled and, frankly, uninteresting.

    • hill-o FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

It feels like they opted for being cryptic because they didn't actually think things through. Sometimes the whole "you decided what the ending means" vibe works, but in this case it felt like "you decide what the ending means because we're not actually really sure ourselves".

These Let's Watch's are great but I agree, this game doesn't have what the first one did. The writing is just goofy at times and it's not nearly as tense/engaging as the original. Instead it goes for gross outs and shock value. It's more distasteful then anything else. Still excited to see you guys finish it.

I wholeheartedly agree that this game is an extremely poor sequel for Outlast. The school setting alone would have been so much better to replicate the feeling of being trapped. The psychological aspect of the first game just isn't there anymore.

There's still a psychological aspect, just not the exact same one. Instead of being trapped, you're being constantly hunted. Have you played the game?

  • tomcat941 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Honestly I agree with them about the game. I loved Outlast, but this one just seems tacky. Even the mechanics are worse (like the documents and notes in the first game are so much better than this nonsense with the camera). Like the only nice addition to the mechanics is the microphone. But the monsters aren't particularly interesting. Like compare the dick chopping lady to Chris Walker. Plus the plot just doesn't really work. Like absolutely, the plot of the first game is a bit convoluted, but it's there. And at the very least you can still enjoy the gameplay without the overall plot; because 'trapped in an asylum, this person is trying to kill me' is simplified, but understandable. But with this one there are so many different areas and levels that it gets tedious. The progress made doesn't feel like progress. At least in the first one you knew that each objective was working towards you getting out the asylum. You didn't need to understand anything about Billy or Murkoff to get that. Whereas with this I feel like I need to read and compile several fucking essays to understand what is going on.

Also the first one had much better pacing. This one is just throwing everything at you as quickly as it can, and yet still manages to make the beginning completely and utterly boring. It does get better as you play. But it doesn't really give me a reason to get through the tedious opening. There's nothing to really work out either, you just have to keep going through trial and error until you find the right exit.

But what annoys me the most is that the DLC ended on a very dramatic note, which could have easily been picked up on. Like the DLC and the plot of the first game linked very well, but then this 'sequel' feels completely irrelevant to that story. And let's be honest, there's enough that's confusing about the first game, that following up on Murkoff and Waylon Park would have helped to clear things up. This story just feels random and not at all connected outside of 'weird things, camera, and can't fight'. I don't really care if it turns out that Murkoff is somehow connected to these events, because it feels fucking weird. They're a corporation, the first one was about them as a corporation having so much power and being corrupt, so to go from 'powerful organisation takes advantage of the mentally ill to torture them and experiment on them until they turn into monsters', and to go to 'religious cult with weird stuff happening' is fucking bizarre.

Having said that I am enjoying the playthrough. It still is scary (and better than a lot of horror games nonetheless) and I enjoy watching you guys play it. And I hope that you still play the DLC when it comes out (and I hope the DLC is better lmao.)

    • Dr_Wondertainment FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold Bring him home

Compare the dick chopping lady to Chris Walker. Okay, dick chopping lady is weirdly strong, belongs to a faction of the cult that broke off, and carries around a pickaxe to impale and castrate anyone in her path. Chris is inhumanly big and rips people's heads off.

As for the rest of your complaint, it's mostly just "why isn't everything exactly the same". Because it's a new game god damn it, are you complaining about Far Cry 5 too? They did something new, and if you stop trying to compare every tiny aspect of it to the first one, you might find that it's actually really good on it's own merits. Have you even played the sequel yet?

    • tomcat941 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

Lol, comparing the physical ability of the characters isn't quite what I meant.I don't care who would win in a fight. What I care about is their ability to terrify and be believable. They've already pointed out that the voice acting for the dick chopping lady is atrocious, not to mention a lot of her dialogue is just bizarre. Chris Walker had more of a motive to chase you. And he wasn't constantly thrown in your face on every single level.

The reason I'm comparing the two games is because this game is a sequel, so you would expect them to continue with certain elements. I loved the first game, I didn't like this game, though I have given it a chance. SO the reason I'm comparing is to try and see why it hasn't lived up to the first.

Personally, I think it's ridiculous to call it a sequel. It doesn't feel connected at all.

I don't want everything to be exactly the same. I loved the addition of the microphone. But the other new additions aren't good. The notes and documents worked much better in the last game. Their mechanics are worse, their storyline is worse, their pacing is worse. The DLC was perfect for giving them a set up for the sequel, which they didn't follow up on. So I also feel slightly cheated.

I'm glad you enjoyed the game, but there's no need to worship it to the point where you feel unable to accept any criticism of the game. There's a reason why a lot of people don't like it.

I agree with them that something is missing in Outlsast 2. It isn't so much intense horror, it's just gross and distateful. Sure there was the fingers cutting off sequence in 1 and almost got your dick chopped off, but overall it wasn't as in your face about it. Like the death animation here takes forever, they just punch you and beat you, on top of that they vomit in your face for the fuck of it. And then what? You just reset to the checkpoint, so what was so "scary" about that. Especially when you have to see it over and over again.

Though having said that, I do think the let's watch series is still very entertaining because of Michael and Gavin.
