So tried the past 2 days to watch this episode here, but it won't play. So i'm going to watch it on youtube at least then continue the other episodes here. Not sure if anyone else has had this issue. Hopefully its just me. Other then that I have been able to enjoy this series here on the AH site.

I'm torn about this ending.  For one, the Raja battle was a bit anticlimactic, and I'm really sad now about Bo Jingles (although all of Gus' Yakashashamoo jokes were hysterical).  And I feel like there was too sudden of a split from Vol. 1 to Vol. 2.  I haven't started watching Vol. 2 yet, but I've grown really attached to these characters (including the NPCs), and I will be pretty upset if they just don't show up again because we're no longer in Jackelheart.  Like, I don't wanna lose Na and Father Dori and the Green Alchemist!

But, in the end, I trust Frank (and Geoff), and I've grown to really love H&H in the 3 weeks that I've been binge-watching it.  So, I'm going to keep an open mind.  Still, even if this wasn't my favorite episode, and I'm still conflicted about the end to this campaign, I would like to say thank you to the H&H cast and crew, because this is an awesome show!

I share your feelings on the ending.  This feels like a false Raja battle after the party failed to achieve a critical objective  like healing Sanji's father. It further feels like Bo Jingles'  betrayal went much further than the party realized and not every NPC they ended up trusting deserved it.  The  Raja was qualified as a construct makes me think that the real mastermind was never uncovered.

I think the two main reasons the NPCs are not with the party in Vol.2  are 1) Frank has to let the party evaluate the tomb without him helping them and 2) They can't be used as fodder checking for potential death traps like some might want.

I agree theron. I feel like Yakashashamoo was seeking an apology himself for never being accepted into the party really, and when Albus asked the explanation they party was focusing too much on the answer coming from Geoff(confirmed by the party's lack of wanting Geoff to play as Stony-kill after the Raja's spell), not from Yakashashamoo who was NOT Bo Jingles. but the party treated this first contact response from yakashashamoo as though it was coming from Bo Jingles. not to mention that the party never even questioned what the spell the raja used on him actually did. but when Albus(albeit mostly through the fault of the rest of the party) then demanded an apology/submission to the party it just confirmed Yakashashamoo's first instinct towards the party(cause by bo jingles unfortunately). but even then he used a relatively mundane spell, focusing and making father dori run, when he could have shattered or thunderwaved and gotten multiple targets. it was quite heart-breaking to me. I guess i can understand the raging Orma's and the racist Bor Ealis' lack of understanding in the situation, but i feel like Mogar, Stony-kill, and maybe Father Dori would have atleast tried to just subdue him. I was really touched with how hard Albus tried to fight for him, especially looking back on how he used to treat people with "questionable" motives. All of this was underlined for me during the last words and actions between Yakashamoo and Albus, although this also seemed to go miles over the parties heads(besides for Albus hopefully). It felt like the teasing of two soldiers on the battlefield who have known each other since highschool, always picking on each other, saying their last goodbyes.

yea i thought back on it during the reveal and immediately a few examples pop out. Like why he was so quick to grab the anitmagic shield and asking for a gold rapier in place of a silver one.
Then there were the accidental allusions like when Mogar wanted to use his moonblade to see if anyone in the party was a shape changer but not being attuned to it yet.

No, it was just a way to put a bow on the end of the first story. That way they could change characters if they weren't happy with the way their character played. (Ryan being the most vocal about changing his character in the post show.)

Ok, and I hope that we get the same npc companions again, I wouldn't want them to just disappear. And speaking of them, did they all stay in JakalHeart or did some of them come with them? I imagine at least Quark came with them cuz he really doesn't have anything for him there.

    • RiverRunning

Maybe Ryan can take on Quark and his old character can be an NPC that they all hate! ;) :P

I kinda find it sad how only Albus, Ryan's character, was trying to save/reform Bo Jingles/Yakshashamoo, Geoff's character. None of the others really seemed too worried about killing Bo. In fact Mogar, Michael's character, was really eager to kill Bo. Even Cork, who Ryan was playing at the time, didn't hesitate to attack Bo. That's probably because, for the party members themselves, Bo was the least liked. Obviously Frank and Geoff have been working on this for a while but the impact kinda fell short. If the other party members had cared more about Bo, then I think the ending could have had more weight. Instead because they all basically hated Bo, they weren't bothered by having to kill him. I'm not saying the ending was horrible, but I definitely feel like it could have been better.

    • RiverRunning

I think things might have played more differently had Bo Jingles managed to convince them to give him the orb!

    • Caninse FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold MusicalGamer

In all honesty, I think that's the downside of having Geoff do that. Geoff is inherently chaotic as a person, so him playing an already chaotic character like Bo Jingles/Yakshashamoo and going just to evil instead wouldn't have the same impact as having someone like Gus/Bor Ealis do that with a Lawful Good to Evil character. It'd be like having Boromir suddenly turn out to be working for Sauron while trying to get Frodo to use the One Ring instead of him breaking from the corruption of the Ring and saving Merry and Pippin by sacrificing himself.

    • Thaddycat FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

@Caninse they hardly gave him a chance to see if he was evil after the change. no one in the party checked what the Raja's spell actually did, and the party's first contact with the Yakasha was them demanding an apology for essentially someone else's actions who he was being compelled to perform, trapped in a chaotic body. That probably caused a lot of conflict, but they all jumped on killing him when he called them morons(a pretty light insult coming from anyone at that table) and attacked father dori(someone the whole party suspects is a pedo and they often admit to only keeping around for healing) with one of his least harmful spells, attempting to compel father dori away from the fight. The Yakasha could easily have hit multiple targets with a thunderwave or shatter spell, which would have been a lot more powerful, not to mention the fancy lute of unknown prowess. My point is the sure the Yakasha was being hostile, but he already had a bad impression of the party from episode 5 or whatever, and their first time meeting the party is demanding it to submit. How would you react? With a hug and a kiss?

I think he is going to play, just as a different character.

And to be fair, they could have found out at any time. He screwed up their plans a bunch, especially in Rib Cage, he almost got them killed or into major fights. If Bor Ealis had cut him with the dagger instead of knocking him out, or if Mogar had cut him with his sword, the jig would have been up.

They never investigated him, or tested any character after they passed initial inspection.

Loved this ending, was kinda sad to see that Bo Jingles had never been Bo Jingles, but love that Frank as a DM had such a long play planned if Yo Sha Shamoo was never discovered... The one things thats slightly bothering me, didn't the whole group go through a moon magic spell (meant to uncover shapeshifters) when they came across some village? You know the one where Orma had a threesome, Albus fucked the old lady, and Mogar amazed the kids with his cold breath...

  • Yllems

Man, I hope Bojingles didn't get killed off because of the fan response. He was my favorite. But if Geoff actually wanted to do that twist, I guess it added some drama.

Now for a little negativity because it has been thirty four episodes.

Frank's past experience playing with Geoff and Gus doesn't translate well to show format. He doesn't work to control the conversation at all, instead waiting for complete silence or contributing boring asides and anecdotes that go nowhere. The most frustrating times this happens are when he looks up rules or moves his NPCs around, and the others have to vamp to fill the silence. After finding the answer, he stands there patiently until someone else realizes that the conversation is dead and says "So, anyway" to prompt him. Interrupting during a casual game may be rude, but as a host, it's his job to keep everyone on track and recognize when a joke is petering out.

Nothing about Frank's style is efficient. There's thirty minutes of useless exposition at the beginning of this episode alone. I'm here for the interactions between Geoff, Griffon, Michael, Ryan, and Gus, not an amateur novel. There are more engaging ways to introduce people to new information, especially in a format built for player contributions. Look at how the Twits and Crits GM managed to build up a world while allowing Funhaus to mess around even more than this crew does.

I'm going to stop ranting because I don't want to come off like I hate Heroes and Halfwits. There are a lot of fun moments. It's just that getting to them is sometimes a slog.

Geoff mentioned on Off Topic (I believe) that he had been discussing with Frank about co-DM'ing with him.  I think killing him off was just a way for them to be able to do that in the next volume without any conflicts.

he's a smart player though, like when he singlehandedly killed that guy in the casino (I think, anyway?) by casting heat metal and doing it over and over, so he did massive amounts of damage while everyone else dealt with the other guys. Plus the guy who tried to run down the street while they were dealing with the spymaster. If Geoff was playing as the main final boss, they'd have a much tougher time I think.

Nah, Stony Kill Sam knows Bo Jingles - the actual tiefling. Probably in his timeline he wasn't killed by yakshashamoo or however that's spelt. Since it took on the personality of Bo Jingles and hung around the party, Stony Kill didn't even think it was a shape-shifter.
