Heroes & Halfwits: "Stuck In the Ribcage With You" - #30

In the season finale, our beloved halfwits split the party again because, of course they do. Bo Jingles and Bor Ealis continue to enact their plan to ambush the mayor of Ribcage. The rest of the party pose as revelers. Meanwhile, the constable's investigation into the salamander attack yields up some interesting answers.

    Re-watching the last episode of 2nd season... I forgot that the "carrying out the plan" bit turned out to be utter shyt.

    Best case scenario: someone incites a fucking riot to handle the mayor's crew, Na becomes a were-tiger, Mogar gets to be a total badass in the fight and gets Na and Orma fighting over him, Oksha somehow influnces the outcome of the fight and/or return trip to Jackalhart

    Honestly, the absolute chaos of this show is what makes it great. Though I can assume Geoff was just screwing with people due to having to be here on his sabbatical, I like his "Agent of Chaos" antics. I'm reckoning he'll be (at least a little) better behaved in the next season as he's not going into work on his rest period from work.

    As for the people saying things like "he's roleplaying his character to a tee" - it's perfectly acceptable excuse. Only the other players can also roleplay their characters to a tee. Orma could fly into a rage and literally just take Bo Jingles head off, he's screwed the paladins over enough times for them to be able to justify violence/death toward him and Albus isn't adverse to blasting people who have wronged him, and Bo Jingles has wronged him plenty enough times.

    Either way, this show is fantastic and I'm really looking forward to the next season.

    I love this show, I really can't wait for season three when we see how this all plays out.  But on the topic of Geoff..  Like, I don't even know, I'd say maybe like, cut Bo's tongue out but it's kind of important for a bard.  I don't think you should kick him off, but I also think that there should be some sort of spell that Albus or someone could learn that could hold his tongue.  Like something that could prevent him from saying something that could negatively affect the party?  I don't know, there has to be some way to tame him other than kicking him off.

    Obviously you can't kick the producer off his own show, and Bo is a significant part of the joy of the show, but I think the crew need to sit down and figure out some kind of limit for where the antics can go.  Players have responsibilities as much as anyone else, and while part of the hook of the show is that these guys are going to cause grief for one another, that responsibility still should be taken seriously.

    Also, because I can't keep saying this on every single comment where it's mentioned, "He's roleplaying his character perfectly!" is not a good excuse for bad group etiquette. Players and their enjoyment of the game matter more than fidelity to the character and the story, and if the reason a player is being disruptive and bringing everyone else down is because of character fidelity, they either need to reconsider their character and how to play them in such a way that it works for the group, or scrap the character and insert a new one.

    Now, in fairness, I think Geoff made an honest mistake on this one, and as I mentioned, this game has a higher tolerance for mutual grief amongst players, because RT/AH content. Hell, even if he weren't a producer and I were running this game, I still wouldn't kick him. I just want some more conscientiousness about the scale with which they dick each other over.

    Final note: What should happen is that Bor, Orma, Mogar, and Albus should throw Bo under the bus by denying any knowledge of these plans, and then very very quickly improvise to hold off his murder till after the ceremony and then just as quickly work to sow enough small scale chaos as to get everyone running around trying to deal with minor shit, and then take what's left in trying to kill the mayor. Whatever else happens, get the heat off of the group, STALL, and work with what you've got.

    THEY CAN STILL SALVAGE THIS: The thing they should have done the entire time is get the mayor on stage, then someone simply shoots him with a shiva poison crossbow bolt.  They do that now, the first person to go in the initiative, SHOOT THE MAYOR WITH A CROSSBOW BOLT, this will spill the blood, then they all book it through the gate.

    Now for a couple of things:

    1) I love the credits, they need to be on every episode.

    2) The antics of Bo Jingles were funny the first few times, but now, since they already have enough that could possibly go wrong, and they  have already spent a lot of time planning, then re-planning, then planning some more cause Albus wants to be a massues, its too much now. The antics need to be toned down.

    I mean everyone's gotta remember that Geoff is role playing perfectly. Chaotic Neutral. I'm surprised he didn't pull an even worse stunt.

    Come to think of it, they could have burned the stage and then waited for people to run around terrified and caught the mayor and his bodyguards off their game. Would've been interesting. But I love their plans none the less.

    • Rudeus

      5 months ago

      No he didn't. Chaotic neutral doesn't equal stupid. He fucked the whole team over and doesn't even admit that he did something wrong. Here some enlightment what Alignments mean.

      http://easydamus.com/chaoticneutral.html

      A chaotic neutral character may be unpredictable, but his behavior is not totally random. He is not as likely to jump off a bridge as to cross it.

      5 months ago

      Rudeus, while I definitely agree, and as a new player, I like that link to the alignments, it's actually super helpful in crafting a rough personality for the alignment you choose, we don't know everything about Geoff's character.

      His flaw could be that he takes no real responsibility for his actions, depending on if Frank allowed custom flaws.  Gus has said on numerous occasions that his character sheet has secret information on it about his character and motivations. I'd wager a bet that Geoff's compels him to make things as difficult as possible, even if it causes resentment within the party.

    • nicus9 FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

      5 months ago

      @mvarosky

      If you recall, his "God" from their visions or whatever that Frank plays (Elvis) has been telling Geoff and Ryan to cause chaos to please him. He congratulated Geoff but told him he should've caused more trouble and also appeared far away from Ryan because Ryan defused the situation and thus caused less chaos.

      Not saying that any of that has to do with alignment.

    • ArcaneArts FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

      4 months ago

      @nicus9

      But the thing of the matter is that killing the mayor is already a move towards Chaos that Olidammara would be well served by, causing an upheaval in Ribcage that far exceeds any amount of in-party chaos. Causing strife for Orma, Albus, Mogar, and Bor at this point is like adding sprinkles to a cake-fun, yes, but not needed. This isn't like the Green Alchemist, which was a much smaller case of strife potential on the whole-in that potential, there wasn't a lot to get, and Bo got the maximum amount out of it. Unless the projected character arc for Bo is "die alone and forsakened by everyone who might have given a damn about him", there's not much point to it, nevermind an actual positive character arc.

      Also, "Acting in character" is never a good excuse for ruining the experience of the party. If a character is being a prick, constantly throwing everyone else under the bus, and is generally making it not fun to play, then the player needs to either change the methods with which he portrays his concept so it works, or scrap the character all together. Granted, part of the selling point of Heroes and Halfwits is that this rule is more flexible than at other tables because of course it would be, look at the content creators, but there's still a reasonable limit to expect from fellow players here, and this kind of a significant breach of that good faith in playing.

      Now, to Geoff's credit, I think he honestly did this as a mistake rather than his other times of deliberately screwing over the group-but when you have that much screwing over the group going on, no wonder the response.

      @ArcaneArts

      I don't know if killing the mayor would result in more or less chaos in the long run. An entire town sliding into hell because a wall was built would be pretty chaotic. In the short term however, that will definitely result in more chaos

    People don't seem to understand: Geoff is role playing perfectly.  This is pretty much what a Chaotic Neutral is SUPPOSED to do.

    • ArcaneArts FIRST Member Star(s) Indication of membership status - One star is a FIRST member, two stars is Double Gold

      As discussed above, Chaotic Neutral is not Chaotic Stupid or even Throw Everyone Under The Bus for Lulz. Chaotic Neutral means that a characters acts wholly in accordance to his own will and reason in favor of freedom.

      Also, even if for some reason that were the case, Role-Playing a character perfectly is a terrible excuse for ruining the game experience for the party. If people are that mad at you for your character, then you have a shitty character you either need to revise or scrap.
