I love bottomless, open ended sci fi. Stuff like Arrival and Martian are great, where everything gets wrapped up in a nice pretty bow. That stuff is hard to pull off. But it’s always cool to see something risky like 2001 or BR 2049 or Annihilation. Classic sci fi was always a little mind bending and I’m glad we haven’t abandoned that.

I can’t say that I would recommend the movie to anyone, but I enjoy the hell out of it

  • BLOOD FEST - Super secret sneak peak!

    dan_dan Editor | BLOOD FEST

    Hey y'all!

We've been hard at work getting BLOOD FEST ready for a world premiere at the SXSW film festival. Some lucky folks got to check out a trailer at RTX Sydney, but I'm sure lots of others are wondering when they are going to have a chance to get a peek.

    Well, here you go.

Here's a look under the hood. Pretty cool, right?! Ok. More soon. Promise.

  • That idea

    ezracooperst President

You ever had that experience when you are instantly hit with what you believe is a stroke of genius. Like a bolt of lightning, you have came up with a brilliant new idea. It’s an idea so good, so novel that you can’t help but feel excitement. An idea becomes an immediate obsession...it’s a gamechanger and you start scribbling notes and the outlines of a business plan. By the time you get home you have already played out the execution in your mind and are counting the money the idea made you. Mogul status!!

And then you decide  to google the idea just to make sure it’s truly as special as you think it is.

Oh, shit. It was already done. Some other person got rich on it...back in the 90s according to their website.

So, do you feel bummed or a pride in humanity for thinking of that idea way before you did? I guess a bit of both.

    Anyways...on to the next one...

  • LP: Minecraft #300 and SPOTIFY: Programming Patch Notes 02.18

    ebregman Programming & SVOD

Welcome to the first monthly update from your friendly neighborhood programming and distribution team. Here’s what we’re working on right now.

First off congrats to the AH team for posting the 300th episode of Let’s Play: Minecraft, which officially puts them at a higher episode count than almost any TV show ever made. Someone manually did the math on this, but I checked myself and yes it’s almost 9.5 days of content back-to-back. In celebration of this milestone, we’re (finally?) going to break out Let’s Play Minecraft on its own series page on RoosterTeeth.com! We’ll keep you posted when that happens.

In other exciting news today, as of this weekend podcasts from Rooster Teeth and the Let’s Play family will be available on Spotify! This has been a long time coming, something we get asked about all the time, and I’m so happy we finally got it done. All the libraries are there, and new episodes will be added at the same time they appear on all other podcast listening platforms. Note - post shows are NOT available on Spotify and are still only available for FIRST members on RoosterTeeth.com. Here’s the list of shows you can hear now on Spotify:

    • Always Open

    • Beyond The Pine

    • CCTV

    • Class Of 198X

    • DEATH BATTLE Cast

    • Dude Soup

    • Filmhaus Podcast

    • Glitch Please

    • Heroes & Halfwits

    • Kinda Funny Games Daily

    • Kinda Funny Gamescast

    • Kinda Funny Morning Show

    • Kinda Funny Reviews

    • Off Topic

    • Rooster Teeth Podcast (Yes, including the Drunk Tank episodes!)

    • The GameOverGreggy Show

    • Try Hard Podcast

    • Twits and Crits

    • Twits and Crits: The League of Extraordinary Jiremen

Most of what we’re focused on now involves getting svod.roosterteeth.com running smoothly and looking good. This week we finished testing image safe areas for featured episodes on desktop and mobile/tablet, and now that we know the specs we can dive into re-safe-area-ing everything. Those images will roll out over the next month or so. As that finishes, we’ll dive into a reorganization and metadata cleanup project to hopefully catch any out-of-order episodes and also make better use of series pages for shows that have grown unwieldy (...like Let’s Play…). We’ll likely also be able to upgrade resolution on some videos at that point, with more on the way afterwards.

We greenlit a few pilots this month too! You heard about these from RTX Sydney: Achievement Haunters will be AH’s wild journey to discover ghosts in the scariest places in Texas. We locked our location this week and I am ridiculously excited. The Murder Chamber (working title) is modern take on a classic murder mystery game. Go into the future where you are judge, jury and guided by Jessica, a super crime solving network. We’re talking through the right way to release these so you can tell us if we should make more.

Last but not least we’ve been staring for hours at the full data wrap up from 2017, which like I’ve mentioned before is the most accurate viewership data we’ve ever had about RoosterTeeth.com. That’s already led us to some interesting new insights. It has reaffirmed to us how important a free-to-watch window is for our content, especially on a 7-day FIRST Exclusive window. And it’s told us a lot about how the new svod.roosterteeth.com can be a better place for our community to gather around content.

Oh and here’s something weird: ScrewAttack’s video Top 10 Sex Scenes in Video Games had a pretty big burst in traffic from organic Google searches over the past month. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is the first one I’ve done, so tell me what I missed! What else do you want to see in these updates?

    revelsrouser twitter.com/revelsrouser

    Hey, everyone,

I’ve pulled myself out of the engineering mines for a moment to send out a note about our kick-ass new video site, currently in development and in open beta for those of you who are new around here. I want to thank all of you who have been using the new beta site at svod.roosterteeth.com, and especially those of you who have sent us your feedback. There has been a ton of it, and we appreciate every word. We’re trying to respond to as many tickets as we can personally, and we want you to know that the team here is really listening to you and working on the things you bring to our attention. Even after we officially leave beta and launch the site, we’ll continue to work every day to make it the best place in the world to watch Rooster Teeth content.

In the meantime, we are squashing as many of the big bugs as we can, and doing so as fast as we can. Some issues with login that caused a “Grey Screen” - that’s fixed. Login from Facebook, also fixed. There are still some issues around older videos not playing. We are aware of this and are fixing them as fast as humanly (or computerly) possible!

So if you haven’t been to svod.roosterteeth.com to check out the beta site, go do that! For all of you using the site, please don’t stop. In fact, use it more. Chat during livestreams and drop some comments on the videos you watch. Let’s start making this new house feel like a home for the entire community!

    Stay tuned for updates! <3

  • The Desk Of The Desk Of DEATH BATTLE: Godzilla Is A Sellout - Writer & Editor Notes

    JoshuaKazemi @joshuakazemi
    • This script started out with several ads featuring lots of different characters. It was a few hundred more words than the average DoDB script so we focused on Godzila
    • Who owns this character? Is he public domain? Why has he been in THIS many ads?
    • Remember this stellar "Godzilla" joke from Austin Powers: I Don't Remember Which One? I do.
    • I wish "Godzilla Repellent" was a real thing because it would essentially just be a quick and easy way to spray some Dr. Pepper down your throat. Mmm.
    • I got Lisa Foiles to say "Hold on to your butts" I can cross that one off my bucket list.
    • Of all of the things I've written, the line "Needlessly destroying signage" might be one of my favorites.
    • Sometimes you throw something together in the edit because you know it'll get reviewed. Like "This idea is crazy and it'll either have to get changed or someone will give me a note to make it better" And then sometimes your crazy, subliminal Blue Apron joke makes it into the final video exactly as you had it.
    • What are your thoughts on Godzilla (2014)? I wanna know. Can you show me? (In the comments below)
    • My James Gunn/GOTG mega Easter egg comes in the form of something hidden in shots from the Snickers ad. I'll leave it at that....happy hunting.
    • There's something really great about the feeling you get when you make your boss cry with laughter over a Nickleback edit/joke in your video.

I'm having a hard time dealing with this current news story that the survivors of the Florida shooting are being coerced into outrage by evil anti-gun forces. If memory serves, right after 9/11 in the United States there was a number of candlelight vigils and calls for action – – I don't remember anyone needing a coach to feel outraged about that particular tragedy. It's disgusting that someone would say this about kids who have experienced unimaginable trauma simply because their views don't align with their own.

  • Store Update! Rooster Teeth x Women's Line

    MicheleFeghali Graphic Design

It's no surprise that women are underrepresented in the gaming industry, but after some quick Googling, I found that women actually make up 42% of all gamers in the US, and that number is only growing. Rooster Teeth fans are not entirely different, and the eCommerce team is hyper aware that women's cuts are underrepresented in the RT Store. BUT HEY, that's all finally about to change. So ladies, here's to you.

Coming real soon, we'll be launching a line with 100% women's silhouettes and cuts throughout 2018. To do that, the RT Store reached out to four inspiring/amazing/deserving women at Rooster Teeth and collaborated with them to bring you a collection that speaks to each one's personality and aesthetic. Those women are Lindsay Jones, Ashley Jenkins, Elyse Willems, and Bethany Feinstein.

    hoOcDbb.jpg

We are all super excited to finally launch this idea, and have it become a reality. Of course, guys can get in on this too, but just know that the sizing and fits will be tailored for women so order accordingly! What this *doesn't* mean is our normal shirt releases getting a women's option – those will stay unisex sizing – but rather a separate collection that will release every quarter that stands on its own, made by women for women. Got it? Okay cool.

Now, I've personally heard a lot of fans ask whether or not the talent designs their own shirts... since it is their line and all (specifically the Barbara and Geoff collections), so I'll give a little insight on how this all happens. We'll first start out with some collaboration from both the talent and the designer, and they'll tell us what kind of look/feel they're going for. In Lindsay's case, she told us about some Dubstep/Electropop artists that personified her style, and keywords like "skulls" and "cats." From there, I took my moodboards and tailored them around that feedback, eventually coming up with 10-15 designs that we later got together to discuss. From there, we had back and forth tweaking until she was happy.. and ta-da! Clothing line. So the short answer I guess is, no, the talent does not put pen to paper to design these things, but they are very much involved in the creative direction itself.

We wanted to hear not only the opinion of these talented four, but ALL the women in the company (why not, right?), so we held a meeting a few months back and invited any and all women in the company to try on different shirt blanks – see which ones fit better than others, the quality, feel, sizing, etc. and which ones we liked as a whole – which I thought was super cool. I mean, trying on clothes with friends hardly felt like work, but I hope y'all love the things we chose! Shoutout to eCommerce Buyer, Monica De La Cruz, for organizing all of it and being another kickass female who's made this entire project possible.

    d5RXnj1.jpg

Another thing to note – we oftentimes work with fanartists. Here, we worked with artist @TheClayDart, who had made this awesome neon cat design in Lindsay's honor, and it worked so well with her style and the rest of the line that we just had to include it. Just another awesome way to make 2018 all about community.

With all that said, being the only female designer on a team of seven, it was really important to me to take on this project. I wanted to give it a... what do they say... "woman's touch," and give the ladies in our community the attention they deserve with designs that are tailored for them. AND I'm beyond excited for you all to see what's next in store because we're just getting started. Here – have a tiny peek.

    AmhQcpr.jpg

If anyone has questions, I'd be happy to answer them. And of course, thanks so much to Lindsay, Ashley, Elyse, and Bethany for being such lovely, creative individuals and letting me bring your personalities to life. It's definitely been one of the most fun and rewarding projects I've been able to be a part of at Rooster Teeth.

I've typed the word "women" a lot.

    Kdin

So we're already almost 2 full months into 2018 and it's already a whirlwind!  Between work, stuff at home, and tons of personal side-projects, I've been probably keeping myself a bit "too busy".

I'm re-writing a comic/animated series concept I wrote over 10 years ago, updating it a bit and re-working some details.

I streamed the original Legend of Zelda to completion in order to get footage for an upcoming personal project.

I did a tease announcement of a VLOG series that will deal with issues like mental health, personal issues, dealing with stress, etc.

Attempted to get some low-key Voice Over roles in a couple projects I saw asking for auditions.

I'm in the process of writing a (live-action) show concept that came to me in a dream, and I'm really hyped about.  Though the idea is still in a very early "series of stickynotes on a wall" phase.

Amidst all that, the usual stuff continues!  The Know videos, MPG videos, trying to maintain a regular Twitch streaming schedule, and day-to-day life stuff.

I'm putting in a good effort for 2018, doing my best to make this year, -my year-.

I hope you're all doing your best for 2018 as well, I would love to hear about the projects you may be working on, books you are reading, games you are playing, etc!

  • Low(ish) Carb Chicken Tortilla Soup (Instant Pot)

    emilyweeks RT Office Coordinator

I'm back to talk about food again. Go figure.

This week's instant pot/meal prep brings us a super simple chicken tortilla soup!  I based my recipe off this Confessions of a Fit Foodie recipe, so I'll definitely give credit where credit is due. I just changed some things around depending on what I already had available.

Now I'll be completely honest here, this isn't as good as regular homemade chicken tortilla soup.. like the kind that's really hearty and more unhealthy.. lol But this turned out pretty good for a healthy version. I got six decent servings out of this, perfect for this week's meal prep.

    the soup

1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breast

    4 cups chicken stock/broth

1 can diced tomatoes with green chiles

1 can diced tomatoes (no salt added)

1 cup black beans (the kind I buy have lime and jalapeno in them, yum. also if you really like black beans you may want to put more than a cup. this wasn't a whole lot)

    1 cup corn

1 medium onion (I sliced this in pretty big slices, like how you would for fajitas. you can definitely slice yours smaller if you prefer)

    3 garlic cloves, minced

    1 tbsp chile powder

    1 tbsp comino

    1 tsp sea salt

    1 tsp black pepper

    1 tsp paprika

    the tortilla strips

3 tortillas (I used Mission's Carb Balance tortillas because they only have 6g of net carbs, but full-carb tortillas would probably taste better if you aren't watching your carb count)

    olive oil

    sea salt

optional topping: avocado and whatever the hell else you want, really

    - Throw all soup ingredients into your pot, give it a good stir, add the lid and seal. For IP users, you can use your Manual pressure function with a 15 minute cook time. (Crock Pot brand - Soup function for 15 minutes.)

    - While that's cooking, get to work on your tortilla strips. I didn't realize just how easy these would be until I made them... Go ahead and preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

    - Spread the tiniest drop of olive oil onto your tortillas, just enough to spread a thin coat over the whole thing. Slice into thin strips, line up on a baking sheet, and sprinkle sea salt over them. Bake for 10-15 minutes, or really, just keep an eye on them until they're as crispy/golden as you would like. (Remember, these will get soggy when you put them in your soup.)

    - When your soup cook cycle is complete, you can either perform a quick or natural release. I don't really see any harm in either way. But when you do decide to open this aromatic vessel, you'll need to pull your chicken apart with a couple of forks, if it hasn't already fallen apart enough.

    - Ladle yourself a bowl of soup and throw some of the tortilla strips in. I also topped mine with a quarter of an avocado for some extra good fats and deliciousness. If you're going to portion yours out immediately for meal prep - don't add the tortilla strips or other toppings in yet. Freeze or refrigerate the soup by itself, and keep the other toppings out until you've heated it back up and are ready to eat.

So, again, this isn't the best chicken tortilla in the world, but it does taste good and it gets the job done. Next time around, I think I might experiment with a little tomato paste to give a little extra flavor, color, and thicken it up a little. I might play around with the seasonings more, as well.

If you give this a try, let me know how it goes! I'd love to hear about y'alls adventures.

  • Sana Rambles: Danganronpa v3 Killing Harmony

    Sanaart RT Production Artist

So this is a very long game so I have a lot to talk about with it! I will also section off this review. The first part will be spoiler free and general things about the game, and the second half will be thoughts I had on each individual chapter. So if you wish to know my opinion without having the story spoiled, stop reading when I say so!

    2029845-1520496998454-DR1.png

    Art
I quite like the art of this game. The Danganronpa games in general have a lot of "style" in my opinion, and with the larger screen size they have really been able to take advantage of it.

I did hear someone at work saying they didn't like the character designs as much in this game because they were much more samey in their proportions and nobody really stood out. While I do agree with this critique, I didn't mind it because historically, all of the characters with especially wacky proportions always died. And no, the one character with extremely strange proportions does not make it until the end (not that that is really a spoiler if you've played the other two games). So at the very least, having everyone samey gave me an opportunity to think about who I think would die based on personality and usefulness to the trials and such.

The sprites look very good, more consistent than they've been in the previous titles. The 3D environments are okay I guess. There's sometimes where I like it, when they combined 2D with the 3D is when I think it looks best. Other times there just really doesn't seem to be much to the environments. I think the second game had the most interesting environments overall by virtue of its extremely weird setting. But, this game they're obviously made better,

And lastly, while I do like the painted cutscenes overall, there are often mistakes in them. Details of characters missing and such quite often. I do wish the same care was put into them as with the other bits of art.

    UI
I just wanted to quickly comment on the UI because I really like how it looks. I think the way the camera switches between characters in conversations is really cool, and the way it looks in trials it's awesome looking. It has this neat stained glass effect.

I did make this section also because I had some minor complaints, however. In some situations this UI is just too tiny (like during the comic minigame), and other times the weird design made me confused on how it worked (such as the map screen). But overall I think it's very nice looking.

    2029845-1520497171520-DR2.png

    Gameplay
Gameplay in a visual novel game? Well, a little bit. Obviously I don't have too much to comment on because the gameplay is primarily pushing A. This section was actually entirely created because I had one minor complaint. If playing with a controller, and walking around the 3d environment, your camera keeps force centering itself when you move. This doesn't occur with the mouse, but I play with controllers. Well, at least you're finally an appropriate height. In the previous games you were always as tall as people's waists lol.

One small thing I just thought of is they no longer let you leave a room until you've collected all evidence from it, which is really nice. You no longer have to wander aimlessly because you missed a small bit of investigation.

I also have mixed feelings about the new minigames. I do think they add to the tone of the game and separate from being edgy Phoenix Wright, but I do think they slow down the trials. At the very least they're all extremely easy. I still have flash backs of the previous game where you could easily go from 100 to 0 on "Hangman's Gambit 2.0," not because you didn't know the answer, but because all the blocks would hit each other on the side.

They also added these fun fanservice modes that I quite liked. In previous games it was just a "dating sim" mode that would allow you to complete every characters side stories, but this one has a board game mode that opens up many many conversations you can't access in the main game.

    Audio
Again, only minor things to say here. The voice acting is very good, I loved the little sound bits from all of the actors. My only minor complaint is the audio balancing. Sometimes the music is at an appropriate level, other times it's too loud. In the class trial it can also be problematic. Some characters that are loud are easy to hear, but sometimes the quieter characters can get drowned out by the music. Thankfully they do provide a way to balance the voices and music, but doesn't super help with the discrepancy of volumes between voices.

But I do want to reiterate I really loved the voice acting! And music is great, too.

    Story/Characters

This story was fine, mostly. I hated the ending. But I'll touch on that in the spoiler section of this journal. I think I liked the overall story of Dangan Ronpa 2 better.

I think this might be my favorite cast of characters, though!

From now on the rest of this will be full of spoilers! If you don't want to be spoiled, don't read any further!

    2029845-1520497252508-DR3.png

    Chapter 1

While I think this case had a cool twist, in retrospect I think it might be my least favorite trial. I really didn't follow the logic of this case at all. When I watched a let's play, I realized that they actually prevent the player for investigating certain parts of the crime scene, but I did know they omitted a good deal of information until the trial. I'm okay with witnesses not saying anything until the trial, but purposely preventing the player from investigating something feels a bit cheap to me.

I can also suspend my disbelief and believe that this elaborate shot put ball contraption would actually work, but the characters never explain how Kaede would have known about the loud music playing near the end of the deadline. While she didn't necessarily need it to at least put her plan into practice, it is the last argument brought up as to why Kaede wasn't the killer. Seems like an oversight to me. Some of the other weird things such as the blood splatter feeling "off" are explained later, however.

The death scene I liked a lot because it was so brutal. A lot of the times the execution scenes don't seem super bad to me, since it's usually just the blackened sees a bunch of flashy stuff and then is squished or stabbed, making an execution seem mostly painless, and perhaps even preferable to being a victim. It's one that stuck in my head, most definitely.

I guess the one thing that disappointed me is I think it would have been cool to have a female protagonist for once, buttt whatever. I also think it would have made for an interesting dynamic to actually have someone take advantage of the first blood perk. But moving on.

    Chapter 2

This one was alright. While witnesses kept quiet long enough to prevent me from correctly guessing who the killer was, I was able to figure out the murder method on my own. I don't really have too much say about this except I think it worked. It was completely ridiculous, but par for the course for dangan ronpa games. And of course, dangan ronpa must always kill the characters with wacky proportions.

Mostly what I really liked about this one was the death scene. Again, it was extremely brutal; the voice acting was really good. Definitely stuck with me for a while.

    Chapter 3
This chapter I have mixed feelings on. I liked it better than the first chapter, but I do feel like there was some missed potential here. The characters bring up early on that their could be two murderers, and Monokuma determines that only the one who killed Angie will graduate. This sounded interesting to me, that a killer could be caught, but forced to stay with everyone. I thought it would have made for an interesting dynamic.

That being said, the motive for the crime being fucked as it is did save this trial for me a little bit. I really liked Kiyo prior to this trial haha. But this was the first execution scene I didn't like as much. The killing scenes have all had some bit of comedy to this, but this was comedic the whole time basically and it's not really my taste. But, he was boiled to death which is much worse than being hit over the head by a shot put ball, so it has that going for it.

    Chapter 4
This one is definitely my favorite trial. The simplicity of the murder scene made it pretty easy to figure out what exactly happened, so I was bored for the first half of the trial, but I really just couldn't figure out who had done it. My guess was Tsumugi, but I did think it was interesting how the game took advantage of my thinking, since I had immediately ruled out Gonta due to his disposition. Kaito did scare me a bit in this trial and I'm not sure if it was intentional. I'm partial to characters like Kaito as someone who has depression and anxiety and the like, having people that go out of their way to help you does make me feel like people care. But this trial he does a complete 180 on his thinking. Previously he had been convincing you to seek the truth no matter what, and now he's threatening you for doing so.

This happens again in the next trial, but with Maki I feel she had much more of a motive than Kaito for doing so and had a plausible reason to believe she may have been the blackened. Kaito was just yelling at you without any proof to contradict your claims. This case did make me much more interested in Kokichi though; I hated him at first but as the trails went on I became much much more interested in his character.

This death scene was also alright, and I do like how chibi Gonta had to die, too lol.

    Chapter 5
This case was interesting. It really could have gone other way, and unlike the first trial, the reason for having information omitted made sense since characters had specific things they wanted to get out of this trial. I also liked it referencing back to past actions I hadn't thought much of, and realizing what they actually meant.

I don't really have too much to say about this one since I was pretty satisfied with it, except for around the ending of the trial, where Shuichi decides that he wants to go along with Kokichi's plan. It's obviously way too late. I know they needed to get Kaito out of the Exisal but it seemed a bit clumsy, especially considering Shuichi's character growth up until this point. Maybe something would have been different if I had used the lying mechanic. I may go back and try.

The death scene was fitting, at least, even if I really started to dislike Kaito's character at this point.

    Chapter 6
Okay fair warning about this section; I hated this chapter, and I have a lot of reasons for doing so. So this section is going to be ranty and complainy more than giving my thoughts of where I wanted to go. So if you do not want to read that this is your warning!

So, Keebo is going crazy and we must find out what the secret of the school was before dawn or he will completely destroy everything, including us. To illustrate this in gameplay, they add a time mechanic. But it's not actually timed. Time passes whenever you speak to someone or investigate something. So, the game emphasizes you must investigate only what you think is important. So, what problem did I have with this? Well...

    - A significant portion of the investigation you are required to do. Now, this makes sense for the previous trials, because they don't want you to miss anything you need to progress the trial. As such, it would make sense here as well. Except that every but of investigation will "pass time," and it's not readily apparent which objects are important and which are not. It has never been a problem before in the game because you've never been punished for investigating everything in a room and speaking to everyone. And you are required to find everything that produces evidence in a room before you can leave. Naturally this lead to some game overs, and was slightly annoying because it goes against how we've been playing the game for 30 hours up until this point. However...

    - The game over for investigating too much really doesn't matter. You are only required to redo the last room. And because it's an investigation, you aren't penalized from the prize you get for trials. So really you just waste a couple of minutes. Also...

    - You don't really have any choice in where you chose to investigate. The characters will tell you where to go and if you try to go somewhere else, Shuichi will say that he should go where so-and-so said. This lack of choice didn't bother me earlier in the game because this game is a visual novel and I expect that. But because it's emphasized you must do things efficiently, and you're punished for investigating more than you're "supposed," to, I'm just really confused as to what the purpose of the "timing" mechanic is at all. Just let me investigate lol. Additionally....

    - Not all of the evidence is actually used during the trial. So I must find all of this evidence, can't proceed unless I find it, and then it's not even required. Maybe it's for the lying mechanic which I didn't attempt to use, but the previous trials did not have sooo much unused evidence.

So I get through the investigation and I'm already a bit irritated because of the rooms I had to redo, but whatever. Time for the trial.

So the trial is okay. So far, until the "twist" anyway. Then I slowly got more bored and frustrated as the trial went on, and this is the longest chapter by far. What exactly was my problem? Well...

    - It is revealed by Tsumugi that we're all in a killing game simulation for the entertainment of an incredibly peaceful world. The fact that the game is a simulation doesn't bother me; we've seen this twist before in the previous game and there was plenty to suggest we were in the "real" world: the flash back lights, the exisals, the way the new areas were revealed, weird meteors, etc. But instead, Tsumugi "proves" it to us by showing the intro cutscene nobody really cared about and showed the game was run by "Team Danganronpa," as evidenced on the title screen. Now I've played a lot of "meta games," and this is just really... sloppy. The only references we see to this chapter are in little cutscenes prior to when chapters start, which means me to believe this chapter was written separate from the rest of the game and then the cutscenes were added to give the rest of the game some tie to the last chapter. There are also no other "meta" elements to the game prior to the last chapter, which is like 35 hours into the game. Just sloppy shift in tone. But anyway, like I said, I don't have an issue with the game being a simulation, just with this "evidence" they chose to use. So what is really my problem? Well...

    - Tsumugi shows us videos of the characters to prove that all of the characters volunteered to be on the killing game show, and as soon as they were put into the game, they were given new personalities, backstories, and character motivations. The show even has writing credits for each of the characters's plot lines. Now, I must ask, what is the point of the volunteers then?

The volunteers are willing to kill. I can see why this would be a bad idea, since it would just be a blood bath day one. So I find the volunteer idea already a little stupid, unless they were agreeing to do it for a large sum of money or something. So, I suppose "team Danganronpa" needed to erase any motivations the volunteers had in order to have unwilling participants. But they don't just do that.

They erase everything about the volunteer prior to them entering the killing game. Their memories and personality are gone. They're even given a new set of skills and reasons for moving forward. So I ask, what's the point of the volunteers at all? These characters ARE AIs. It's even shown in game these personalities can be recreated on the fly. There's no point to the volunteers. You may as well say a random person on earth dies every time someone dies on the killing game.

Now, if the characters were just AIs, I'd be okay. If the characters backstories are what they remember, but the Hope's Peak and meteor and whatever story Tsumugi made up for them was fake, and they were kidnapped or something, I'd be okay (and that's probably just what I'm going to roll with for my own enjoyment). I wouldn't really care if some assholes volunteered to be on this killing game for no benefit, but it wouldn't be contradictory. But trying to tie these two together just doesn't make sense. There's no reason to have both at the same time. It makes one of them obsolete. And also that being said...

    - I can believe in a world of billions of people, you could find 15 idiots willing to participate in this killing game. However, if I'm too believe that, you cannot convince me that nobody in the audience would vote after Shuichi's speech.

    - One "explanation" I keep seeing is that it's possible that Tsumugi is just lying, but in the end that doesn't make me like this ending or chapter any more than I already do. It really just means that all these hours really didn't further our understanding of the story. I do think if lies are introduced to a game, there does need to be some way to figure out what the "truth," is, or I'm just not really that satisfied.

I could go on, but these are some of my huge problems with the logic of this ending. But I don't want this ranty portion to be half of the ramble. So I'll include some more overall thoughts.

I do like the message, that fiction can change the world, and how much it means to us is how we perceive. I just felt so much dissonance with this ending because they heavily emphasize the lies the characters were put through, but fiction isn't "lies." Fiction becomes real to us in a way. If we encountered a lie this extensive in real life, it's simply malicious and manipulative. It's really not was fiction. I don't know if this was some kind of error in translation.

The epilogue made me feel a little more helpful but eh, really a lot of this ending was lost on me just for the leaps and logic, and the fact that kind of audience this ending was referring to really isn't "me."

    Closing Thoughts

So, I'm surprised is anyone made it this far! This was really long, but to be fair the game was incrediblyyy long, so I had a lot to talk about. Overall I did like this game, but I liked the second game better. But I'll spend more time with the 3rd title because of the fanservice little game and also the mechanics that provide some branching paths (maybe? I haven't tried). I like the characters a lot, and up until the ending I enjoyed myself a lot. I'm sort of surprised that more games are apparently coming? It did feel "final" anyway.

But if you have thoughts, feel free to share them! My next game I've decided to play is Into the Breach. I had another game planned first but I'm too excited for Into the Breach haha.

    digigargoyle RT Animation Compositor

It's my 3rd Anniversary here at Rooster Teeth. Recently my other social media accounts reminded me of everything that led up to my interview and acceptance here, which is a story I still owe you guys. But.....not just yet.

Still, all in all, it's been a wonderful three years. From working on the end of The Chorus trilogy for RvB13,the various visual styles that we threw at you for RvB14 and the new story arch in RvB15 to the continuing evolution of RWBY from seasons 3 to the present, and the cuteness that is RWBY Chibi, I've been so lucky to have been a part of all of it.

AND, there's the matter of seeing how both the Animation Department and Rooster Teeth in general have grown over such a short time. There are so many wonderful and talented people that work here.

I'm humbled and honored to be a part of this company, community and family.

Hello again from me and the Skill Tree team!

We have an exciting opportunity for the many of you out there who possess the skills that I do not, and that it to draw real good!

A few days ago I mentioned this:

"As you may have seen from social media and the end of the BurnieVLOG *sob*, myself and a small, incredible crew have been working our butts off making five episodes of "Skill Tree", where we take an unskilled British executive assistant (it me) and transform her into a battle-hardened femme-fatale, RPG style!"

The thing is we want, no, we NEED your help.

We're looking for an artist (or artists) who can help with our show art and thumbnails! Someone who can visualize what this "battle-hardened femme-fatale" version of me would look like, what our post apocalyptic universe she has to navigate would look like and how she's going to use these badass skills to stay alive and kick butt. We're thinking a graphic novel-esque style...the 28 Days Later Graphic Novel meets Tomb Raider meets The Last Of Us kinda thing.

I'm not sure what we can offer you yet...I'm working on that bit. But it will be cool - promise!

If you want to give it a go send your artistry to skilltree@roosterteeth.com

    Much love! Stay awesome!

It’s been a while since my last post on here, but I’m here now. I’m still Emily, but with a few modifications — I live in Austin now, I’m a junior in the Radio/Television/Film program at the University of Texas, and I’m the Programming and Distribution intern at Rooster Teeth!

If we haven't talked in a while, hit me up, let's catch up.

Howdy Ya'll (which is a thing we say in Texas, without irony)

Tomorrow we're having a "Geoff Line" drop, but this one is a little different than the usual fare. It's called "Simple Geoff", and it will be the first stocked shirt in my line.

The idea behind the Geoff line of merch, is that the limited nature of the items A) appeals to my love of collecting things, but more importantly B) allows us the flexibility of trying out new and different ideas, while limiting the risk associated with buying large amounts of stock (as we traditionally do), freeing us up to be more creative.

To that end, I know there are a lot of you that can't be parked on the internet on a Friday, waiting for my dumb stuff to drop, so we've come up with this idea.

Completely in addition to the normal Geoff stuff that drops in limited quantities, we will have one constant shirt, a "Simple Geoff" shirt if you will, that is continually available for purchase, and rotates out on a quarterly basis. So, Feb 16th will be the first iteration of that. It's a knife logo pocket tee in green (shown below), that will be for sale until roughly Q2 2018, where we will refresh and change it in some way, and sell that version.

Does that make any sense? I'll try a TLDR: Normal Geoff line will continue to function as always, with the addition of a quarterly "Simple Geoff" shirt you can pick up whenever, and not have to worry about missing the drop. Hopefully this will satisfy collectors and non-collectors alike! If you have any questions about this journal (and only this journal), please ask them here and I will try and answer.

  • RWBY Manga Blazing Up the Charts!

    BoringGeoff Stuff and/or Things!

    Hey gang,

You may have heard that our friends at VIZ Media released the newly localized version of the RWBY Manga last month. We are incredibly pleased by how the book turned out - and apparently so are you because it is selling like hot cakes!

The RWBY Manga debuted at #2 on the NPD BookScan charts. It's tracking just behind the latest volume of Brian K. Vaughan's ultra awesome SAGA series. This is huge news. We know how much y'all love RWBY and we know how much y'all love manga, but we never could have predicted how much y'all would love a RWBY manga! Thanks for all the support.

This bodes incredibly well for the other upcoming RWBY manga localizations. The adventures will continue when RWBY Official Manga Anthology 1: Red Like Roses hits store shelves on May 15, 2018.

In the meantime, go pick yourself up your very own copy of the RWBY Manga. It's out now wherever fine manga are sold - and (even cooler) will be available on our RT store very soon!

Stay tuned for more updates as they come in. Until then, happy reading!

    Best,

    Geoff
